Customer Review: Auto-turn off is a real plus! But make sure yours arrives intact.

We ordered this item because we are considering buying an induction cooktop and wanted to try it out. It is great! One feature I was surprised to see was that the built-in timer actually turns it off when the time is up. I've read reviews of other items like this where all the timer does is beep or something. I'm using it to season a wok, and the instructions I'm following have you leave it on low for 15 minutes, then let it cool, then repeat. I set the timer and was waiting for the beep. After a while, I was afraid I had missed it, so went to check and was pleased to see it had shut itself off!
Now, for the problems:
-- Ours arrived broken. Only the inner "burner" circle generated heat. I was testing it to see how fast it worked with a large pot of water, and noticed that only a small spot in the center was churning and boiling. I confirmed this later by using a piece of parchment paper while cooking under a large pan. Again, only the inner portion turned brown. So make sure to test yours before throwing away the box and packing materials.
-- I don't see any way to change the setting from "Cook" to "Warm." I can't determine if this is a problem with the device or not, because the instruction manual is in Japanese or Chinese (I didn't look closely to determine which). So maybe there is a way that I just can't figure out. I also can't figure out exactly what the "Warm" setting even does, since I don't read these languages!
We were already leaning towards getting an induction cooktop, and have decided to go ahead with it after trying out this unit. However, if we weren't already in the market for a new stove, I would definitely consider buying one of these to supplement our existing stove. We're not really gourmet cooks, and rarely use more than one burner at a time. (However, I'm so excited about our future new stove that I'm thinking cooking might get more interesting to me!)
I have seen this item selling for less elsewhere, but you can't beat Amazon's shipping and return policies.
