Customer Review: Returned two before I gave up

The first one worked fine for about two weeks. Then the shut-off began to malfunction, leaving the water to boil furiously until I unplugged the appliance. I sent it back and received a second one which never worked correctly. It always heated to boiling and never did shut off. I returned it as well, and replaced it with a little Hamilton Beach which makes single cups of coffee using pods.Hamilton Beach Personal Cup One Cup Pod Brewer Takes a bit longer to heat water than the Hot Shot, but it works correctly and I can use it for coffee too, which I do infrequently or if a coffee drinker visits.Customer Review: Ouch, buy something else!

If all you are looking for is an appliance to heat up water to boiling, this product can do that.
If you would like to fit your travel mug under the water spout or not get scalded by the steam escaping the top of this unit then buy something else.
The product could be made better by changing the following items:
1. Make the unit taller so it will fit travel mugs.
2. Have markings in the water container to let you know how much you have added.
3. Make a tighter fitting lid to prevent the heated steam from escaping the unit from all sides.
4. Make the base heavier so it is less likely to tip over during cup insertion and removal.

I do not like heating a tea pot on the stove in the morning before work as it's a ceramic stove and stays "hot" long after the burner is turned off. Not safe for "naughty" pets that may jump on the counter from time to time! Also, microwaved water is NOT the same....it cools too quickly.
The Hot Shot heats a mug of water in about 60 seconds and it's BOILING HOT too!
Also, it takes up very little space on the counter and it's not hot to the touch on the counter.
It's wonderful if you need "HOT" water for recipes too! Quick, easy to use, and the price was right on Amazon!
ps. I had a Hot Shot many years ago and I forgot how much I missed having one!

This is a great item if you simply like to brew up a single cup of tea in the morning - at home or at work. I've had my original Hot Shot for over 12 years (for work), and decided to pick up another one for the house.
The original was white, while this one is black. The new model is much quieter, just as fast and a bit more stylish. My only gripe - the dispense button requires a bit more force than is necessary. The older model was easier to use in this respect.
That's it's only quirk. It's way faster and surely less energy consuming than boiling water on the stovetop. Sometimes I even pack it for road trips and bring my own tea with me. A total steal for the price!

We have a Hot Shot that is at least 15 or more years old that we received for a Christmas gift. We love it so much that we bought one for my Mother-in-Law for Christmas last year (2007). They love it so much that they mentioned getting another one to use at their summertime camp home. So we bought it for my Father-in-Law's birthday in August, 2008. So now we are a 3-Hot Shot Family.
It is so easy and fast to use, and if you have an electric stove, the Hot Shot also saves on the electric bill. It is great for a quick cup of tea, coffee, instant hot chocolate, or any other beverage that is made with hot water. I would recommend this product whole-heartedly.
