Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sunbeam 6131 Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser, BlackCustomer Review: Pretty Good Summary: 4 Stars
Works as advertised. Perfect size for Instant Lunch, hot cocoa, or tea. I gladly bought a second one after the first became too clogged with mashed potatoes. Only takes about a minute for the water to boil. Not very good for cooking pasta in though as once the water boils the heat turns off automatically. Another shortcoming of this device is that it has no off button. If you don't want water at a full boil you must unplug it for the heat to turn off. Overall a really nice thing to have in the kitchen. The cord is way too short for me, but it's the average length for a counter top appliance. An essential for dorm life in college. The only other con I can think of is it is quite painful to wash your hands with.
Customer Review: Super Appliance However It Leaks Summary: 5 Stars
We had an older model white one for years and don't know how we ever got by without it. We grab coffee on the run or tea and it's perfect. Also good for those cup of soup things, hot chocolate or anytime you need a serving of REALLY fast hot water. It might take a minute or so which sure beats using the microwave or stove.
The black one we just got unfortunately leaks for some reason. I called Sunbeam and their customer service is awesome! They are sending out one for free and just said to throw the other one away. It still works though, so it's not hitting the trash until the new one arrives. My husband would have a fit if he couldn't make that quick cup of java at 5 AM before work. :)
Customer Review: Nifty Summary: 4 Stars
I received this as a Christmas gift. So far so good. Boils water, and I checked i was bubbling when the light went off, quite fast. My only three qualms are that the cup clearance could be taller so larger cup could be placed under it, secondly I would like to be able more water. I like big cups/mugs of tea. For most people I think its fine tho. Great product. Also the cord is short. If you have electric outlets on you counter you wont have any problems, but if they are far away you might need an extension cord. Another bad thing is that it's so good and convenient that now I need to find a permanent place for it on my table. It's not that it has a large footprint, it's that I have a small table.
Customer Review: Simple, efficient, and does what it says Summary: 5 Stars
I have had a version of the Sunbeam hot shot for many years (on my third one now). Not much to say except that it does what it says very well. Dump in a cup or two of water, punch the start button, and 60 seconds later it is boiling hot, ready to make coffee, tea, cocoa, or throw in the face of someone that is annoying you (although the latter is certainly not a recommended activity). The design has changed very little over the years, and I find this much safer and faster than using a microwave or stovetop. If you use yours a lot like I do, it does eventually wear out and begin to leak, but I got 7 or 8 years good service out of each I have had. They are great for your desk at work as well.
Customer Review: Easy to use and fast Summary: 5 Stars
This product has been around for over a decade, and for good reason: it works, and works well. My mother bought me one in Fall 1993 when I went off to college and lived in a tiny dorm room. It has served me well ever since. Nearly 12 years later, it still works as well as the day I got it. It really does heat 16 ounces of water to boiling in under 2 minutes. It's insulated so the outside does not get hot. Just remember to only heat water inside of it, not other liquids. It has a nice, clean look and a modern design which I'd even call "cute". The cord stores underneath the base when not in use, for a clutter-free appearance. I'd recommend it to everyone for a wide variety of situations.
