Customer Review: It does what it claims, but...

I purchased one of these in black for use in my shop and one in white as a gift for my mom.
The one that I am using daily has a small defect that may prove to be a quirk of the one I received or a broader defect that you may encounter.
The dispensing valve allows a small amount of water to leak out of the tank. The base of the unit then simply allows the water to run off and onto whatever it is sitting on. I solved this by simply laying a rag over the bottom. The water evaporates from the rag faster than the leak.
The only other issue is that the bottom is not open like it's predecessor. This does not allow for the filling of taller mugs or some soup bowl prepared foods.
All and all, it functions the way in need and is priced reasonable for what you get.

This is a good quality product, it truly is. The problem I have with it lies in the fact that I bought it online rather than seeing it in a store. I use tall travel coffee cups which are pretty standard these days, so I had erroneously assumed that this model would accommodate them. That was my fault. While the Sunbeam does heat water quickly and to a good temperature, it is a big inconvenience to have to use a small coffee mug to transfer the water to my travel mug. It is also too small for me to slide my teapot under, meaning I have the same problem of transferring the hot water from cup to pot.
If you only use regular size coffee mugs this will be fine. If you're more fond of over-sized mugs or travel mugs - I'd advise investing in a different model.

I was first was introduced to the Hot Shop when visiting my daughter. It was fantastic and so quick and easy to use for hot tea, coffee, instant oatmeal. So the day after I flew home, I was buying my very own Hot Shot. I use it daily for hot drinks. I is also a great starter for making steel cuts oats, I heat the water in my Hot Shot fill my pan and we are eating a earlier than starting with a pot of cold water. I love it so much I bought one for my Mom's birthday and she loves it's and has gotten rid of her tea kettle! This is one super gift everyone needs they just don't know it yet!!!
Customer Review: Great Little Appliance for a Specific Need

This little appliance does only one thing but does it very well. It's faster and more convenient than a stovetop kettle or microwave for heating 1-2 cups of water and very easy to use. Just pour in water, close lid, press top button (automatically turns off when ready), place cup under spout, and press front lever to dispense. I use it several times a day and it hasn't failed yet.
Just be aware of its limitations. The reservoir holds only 16 ounces so it's not for boiling a lot of water, the front space is only 5" high so oversized mugs and tall beverage cups won't fit, and the electrical cord is only 2' long so it must be positioned close to an outlet. But all-in-all, a great appliance from a fine brand at a low price.

For at least the last 30 years every house in my family has had a Hot Shot in the kitchen. It is wonderful for coffee, tea, hot cocoa or instant soup or for that one cup of hot water for Jello. It heats in a flash. They are almost indestructable. After about a zillion cups heated it will start to not heat so well or minerals will cause it to leak a little but for the price it is amazing. I give them with a box of tea and a special cup as a gift. People are always amazed at how they lived without one. Sure you can heat water in a microwave but I would bet it takes significantly more electricity and usually a little more time. Why the white is so much more expensive than the black, could not guess. It is really a bargain.
