Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Starfrit 93013 Pro-Apple Peeler with bonus core slicer

Customer Review: I Love this thing!
Summary: 5 Stars

It used to take me at least a minute or two a piece to peel an individual apple. (That can take up a lot of your time when you peel at least 10 apples at a time) Now it takes me about 5 seconds to peel a whole apple. I no longer cut off more of the flesh than needed because the peeler is so consistent and cuts long strands of apple skin off and it's great to feed the critters out in the back yard!

The corer and slicer that come with it are also a big bonus. That helps immensely!

A word of caution though... they aren't kidding when they say that the blade is very sharp. Be very careful with the blade, as I was drying off the blade after rinsing it and the blade cut through the dish towel and sliced my finger pretty good. It's a good thing that it's so sharp... just be very careful handling it.

Customer Review: Terrific Product
Summary: 5 Stars

This product works! I used the pealer on approximately 80 lbs of apples of very different sizes and shapes. On occasion due to the odd shape of the apple I ran it through the peeler a second time with great results. This is tough little machine.

I chose it because I thought that it would help my 8 yr old son enjoy helping with the apple harvest and processing ordeal we go through every year. I thought he would like to watch the gears move. Well he loved it. We all loved it. I even purchased a second unit for my Mom.

The bonus core ejector not only works as an apple corer, it is a great apple gun (similar to a potato gun, just for much older kids). The bonus slicer is also handy, how ever the slices could be smaller.

I highly recommended this product.

Customer Review: Yes, it really works
Summary: 4 Stars

This is the first apple peeler that I have ever purchased, and did so based on reviews by other customers. I actually bought this for doing pears and found quickly that it is DEFINITELY not made for pear shaped fruit. Later, I tried it on apples and it actually does what it says. There might be a couple of very small places that it skips, but it is well worth the price. The core ejector might work for someone stronger than me, but I did not have good luck with it. The slicer, on the other hand, is perfect! I DID use the slicer on the pears and it works fine on pears and apples both. It even works on really large apples. I had considered returning it after it didn't work for the pears, but since it redeemed itself in my eyes...I will just have to plant apple trees.

Customer Review: Great for small jobs
Summary: 4 Stars

This apple peeler is great for peeling an apple here and there or if you have a small project like making an apple pie or apple sauce. It's easy to use. My 8 year old loves to eat apples and now doesn't have to ask someone to peel his apples.

I tried to use this when canning and it was hard because you have to peel and then remove and then cut. Unlike the other peelers that peel, core and slice all at once. The core slicer that comes with it, is not sturdy and cannot handle cutting too many apples in a row. It's easier to just use the peeler and then cut your apple with a knife. It can be done, i just found it more time consuming.

I am still pleased with the product, it's great for everyday use.

Customer Review: I love it.
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this almost daily to peel apples or pears for my children. They love to help with the peeling. I originally bought it for making apple pies so that they could help me. It is so fast. It probably takes about 10-15 seconds to peel and apple. It does it in one long curly strip. My kids like to take the curlies outside and leave them for the birds rabbits and squirrels. It doesn't do as good of a job on pears as it does on apples because pears are sometimes oddly shaped with little bumps or indentations but it does a good enough job and you can go back with a knife and get the few small areas it may miss. I have not tried it with potatoes yet but I am sure it will do a great job with them as well.
