Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Starfrit 93013 Pro-Apple Peeler with bonus core slicerCustomer Review: Unbelievable Summary: 5 Stars
I went to Amazon to purchase an apple peeler and expected to buy the Pampered Chef variety...until I saw this one and read the reviews. It truly looks like a child's toy but is fabulous. It completely peels the apple from top to bottom in about three rotations of the handle. It is so easy to pull out from the box, put on the handle and peel away. Our dog loves the one, long continuous peel that she gets as a treat. You have to start slow when turning the handle so the blade can make the initial cut into the skin. We even tried a potato and were amazed at how well it did that, too. The entire family was skeptical of what I said until they tried it themselves. Mine came with 2 extra blades, as well as the corer and section slicer. I love it. It doesn't slice like the Pampered Chef one, but I don't always want my apples sliced. This gives the option to core and slice or quarter or cut any way you want. It's also a snap to rinse off and put back...just dry the blade thoroughly and carefully before storing. At $15 or less, it is unbelievable!
Customer Review: awesome apple peeler Summary: 5 Stars
My family has tried many different apple peelers, some quite expensive, but everyone seems to prefer this one. When we gather to peel bushels of apples to make apple butter, this is the coveted apple peeler...and the team with the Starfrit Pro-Apple Peeler always peels the most apples !! My parents recently took it to our church when they were making hundreds of apple dumplings for a fund raiser. Needless to say, we ordered another one for the church kitchen and some of the helpers that day ordered one for their own home use. It is also great when peeling apples to place on the food dehydrator. The price is very reasonable. I have had mine for over 5 years and I haven't even changed the blade yet, although extra blades are provided. I try not to submerge it in water when cleaning, but if it does need a good cleaning, it easily comes apart by removing a few screws and easily goes right back together when dry. The bonus core ejector is great, too. This is a great gift idea!! Buy 2 or more and qualify for free shipping.
Customer Review: Sometimes great, sometimes not, but cheaply made Summary: 3 Stars
The very first apple I put on this peeler was a Fuji - nice round apple. This peeler worked superbly, and I was amazed! The third apple I peeled and took off the peeler had one of the steel prongs that hold the apple on the machine still stuck in the bottom of the apple. I suppose you get what you pay for, and this case is no different. If that was my only complaint, this machine would have gotten more stars, because I can glue that back in place.
It just doesn't work well on red delicious apples, which aren't very round and can, at times, be almost square. Sometimes it skips around, missing peel; other times the blade comes to a grinding halt in the apple side, pulling the apple partly off the prongs.
Bottom line - it's cheaply made (in a foreign country -can you guess which one?) out of plastic, but works amazingly well on round apples. If your apple isn't relatively round, you're going to have issues.
Customer Review: Oh Boy! This is a treat for arthritic hands!!! Excellent tool!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The peeler came today and I must say that anyone who says it doesn't work, is doing something wrong.
This thing is wonderful. I peeled about 15 apples in no time, had them cut up and in the pot for fresh applesauce in record time.
This does NOT slice the apples. It only peels them. (which is what I wanted)
And the best part? No sore hands.
When you have arthritis in both thumb joints, peeling anything is difficult.
This little tool makes it fun and at the same time, a speedy job of it.
Don't immerse it in water. Just wipe it down and dry it off before you cover the blade and prongs with the safety shields.
Oh, it also comes with 2 extra blades.
I haven't tried potatoes on it yet, but I'm betting it will make quick work of them also.
So if you are looking for an apple peeler, this one is the cat's meow.
Customer Review: This thing works perfectly=) Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this because my husband doesn't like apple peels and I have a few recipes that call for apples. I love to make them, but I don't love peeling and cutting up the apples. So, after seeing this recommended on a blog, I purchased it. I didn't even use it for a few months, but when I did...I was hooked. It works perfectly. I was a little worried at first because I have a kind of textured counter top and I thought it wouldn't work if it wasn't suctioned down, but it worked perfectly. It actually worked so well that my 4 year old son peeled 5 apples with it. He just turned the handle, but that shows how very easy this thing is to operate. It also comes with a couple of replacement blades, which I was happy about. I recommend this to anyone who peels apples, even if you don't do it that often, it's worth it. I will be making my apple recipes a lot more often now=)
