13 Knives + Shears and Storage BlockRogers Pro series of cutlery is great for chefs who want a full set of sharp knives without the headache of maintaining their edges. Every slot in this set's hardwood block is filled. The selection includes an 8-1/4-inch chef's knife; an 8-1/4-inch carving knife; an 8-inch bread knife; a 5-3/4-inch boning knife; a 4-3/4-inch utility knife, a 4-3/4-inch vegetable knife, a 3-1/4-inch paring knife, six 4-7/8-inch steak knives, and a pair of 8-inch poultry shears. All blades are stamped of stainless-steel and have serrated edges, which is the secret to their never needing to be sharpened. While convenient, the serrations are not always the preferred blade style when cutting through certain foods, such as meats, because they tend to tear rather than slice. Blades are flexible, which makes for easier maneuvering around bones in meat and fish, but thin and extremely lightweight. Although they have full tangs, the knives do not have the heft one would expect from that construction. Synthetic handles are snugly encased around the tang and triple riveted for a secure hold.
