Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Space Bag 12 Storage Combo Packs in ColorCustomer Review: Better than older versions!! Summary: 4 Stars
I have tried Spacebags in the past, and was TERRIBLY disappointed. I am getting ready for a cross country move, and I need all the space I can get. I was at a certain large warehouse store (it rhymes with bosco), and saw them there. I figured I would give them another try since the warehouse's return policy is excellent. I did notice some major improvements to the bags from the ones I had long ago. First, the bag material seems more pliable (the older one were kind of brittle, causing them to rip like previous reviewers) leading me to believe they might hold up better, and the valve itself is smaller and has a fixed cover on it (the older ones were larger, and had a removable cap which almost immediately came off and got lost), and the seal itself seems to be beefier and the slider is pretty fixed on the channel (the older one's would come off and were never really positioned on the seal correctly, so they were pretty much useless). I have used all but one of the bags in the box due to it being torn (the company is replacing the one), and have had them filled for the past week. They have held the sir just fine so far. Now for the negative. I would have given 5 stars if it were not for the picture on the box making it seem like all of your stuff is going to be compacted into this neat, flat, organized package. It is not. I have one bag that looks even remotely like the pictures on the box, and it is the one filled with my down pillows. ALL of the other bags are thick shriveled packages, that do not stack (or in my case fit into a box) neatly. I realize there must be some kind of learning curve to these things, but it is a little irritating to be expecting your items to be able to be stacked, and they cannot be (maybe I am being a little anal). Anyway, this one draw back is not going to deter me from buying another box from said warehouse to use for my move. If you are still unsure about these, go buy a small box from a brick and mortar store and give them a try before ordering them and having to ship them back. I am so far not disappointed, but I will update after the move and review how they made the move.
Customer Review: I don't know why I waited so long to buy these Summary: 5 Stars
I've seen these bags or ones similar to these advertised for years but somehow never got around to buying them. I'm glad I finally did! I have lots of fleece furniture throws in colors that go along with the seasons. I have lots of Christmas throws in reds and greens and fall throws in rust and brown colors. They're great for snuggling up on the sofa when it's cold, but they take up so much room when you have to store them. These bags are a perfect solution.
I folded 8 or 9 throws, some fleece and a couple down and stuffed them into the extra large bag. I ran the little tab back and forth along the top a few times to make sure they were sealed well. Then I took the hose from my Dyson vacuum cleaner and placed it over the tab, and pressing down on the bag, turned on the vacuum to remove all the air. It was pretty amazing to watch the air being sucked out of the bag and the size being reduced to a much smaller package that was easy to store. The only thing to keep in mind is the size of these bags. Even when they are flattened they're pretty wide. The extra large ones barely made it into the cabinet that I wanted to store them in. They wouldn't have fit into my dresser drawers. I was able to put the large size into a drawer. I think I'll get some medium bags next time which will store in narrower places.
It's quite surprising how many things you can fit into these bags and a bonus is that it will probably keep everything moth free since there is so little air left in the bags.
Customer Review: perfect Summary: 5 Stars
for years, i wanted to order these. i watched the infomercials and wondered if they really work. i live in a small house and i really needed to store some of my comfortors and pillows. i got this pack and also the one with the tote bag.
this is the perfect solution. in each one of these colored ones, i put a comforter and a bed pillow. in one of them, i put a quilt and 2 bed pillows. this is wonderful.
they are easy to use, and mine did not leak. i now have them stored on top of one of my shelves. i don 't know why i didn't order them a long time ago. i am getting ready to put away my summer clothes in them and i will have more room in my closet for my winter clothes. it will also prevent the dust that gathers on clothes throughout the seasons that are just hanging in my closets. i even gave a friend of mine 2 of the colored ones and she was amazed. she said she always wanted to see them deflate. when i was putting away some of my stuff, she came over and i showed her how to do it. she went home and filled the 2 i gave her and is placing an order on amazon for the whole pack. jsut like me, she said she wasn't sure if they really worked.
this is a great value and if you have storage space problems, especially for comforters and pillows, this is the solution for you
Customer Review: best yet! Summary: 5 Stars
I have used many space bags over the years and they keep on improving. This is by far the best vaccuum valve system yet. The bags are huge and may seem too big at first glance, but once you fill them to the "fill here" line and vacuum them down, they are very compact. I would suggest laying them on a flat surface to fill and vaccuum down, so they will stack easier. Also, I suggest putting only two layers of clothes, since these bags are clear, you can look at the outside to know what's in the bag without opening it.
To address other user's problems with the bags- If you pack them full, or over full, yes, they would burst and "not work" because you are vaccuuming air out. So, there has to be some air to be removable. And, your vaccuum hose mearly fits over the valve, it doesn't have to be a tight fit, just flush to the valve, you might need the vaccuum wand attachment. The valve is just under 1 and 1/4 inches across, so your hose opening will need to be bigger. I have used mine with many different vaccuums, both upright and canister.
I have used older models of the bags season after season. The more I used them, the more I see ways to use them. Buying more bags than you think you need is a good idea... you'll used them all- for coats, comforters, woolen yarns and fabrics, etc.
Customer Review: Good for storage, OK for travel Summary: 4 Stars
I got these bags because I needed all the space I could get for my long-distance road trip, and wanted to store things that I didn't need during the trip in a convenient package. Overall, I have been fairly satisfied with these bags, but there are a few things that need to be kept in mind if you are considering using them.
First of all, the compression of your cloths, although impressive, is not nearly as dramatic as the commercials would lead you to believe. The compression is most noticeable for very "fluffy" items like towels, but it works less well for already very compressed fabrics. For optimum compression you should also fold and arrange items neatly and symmetrically.
During my trip I had to move the bags quite a few times, and all this shifting caused one of the bags to open and expand. As I did not have a vacuum with my on the trip, it was impossible to reseal the bag and compress it again. This leads me to believe that these bags are much better suited for "static" conditions where they don't have to be moved much (or at all), like long-term storage.
Overall, I have been fairly satisfied with these bags. They are an innovative and practical solution for many storage needs.
