Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sonic Blade 7865.00 Cordless Rechargeable KnifeCustomer Review: very handy but not very durable and certainly not heavy duty Summary: 3 Stars
I bought one of these at a local discount store on Clearance a couple of years ago. Recently the battery stopped charging. I called the company and they told me there was no warranty on them despite what I had read, and that they'd ship me a new battery for $10. Rather than do that, I decided to just buy a new one so I had an extra and some 'spare parts'. I'm just that type of guy. I figured it was worth the extra $15.
The knife is very handy. I use it mainly to cut summer sausage, cheese, and other meats. After using it for a while it's tough to go back to a regular knife. I keep it handy on the kitchen counter and, until recently, charged at all times.
Besides having had a battery (possibly charger) go kaputt, I have a couple of other complaints with it. First of all, you have to RAM the battery into the base in order to make the contacts make contact with each other and the battery to charge. This is a design defect, and may have just been caused by an incorrect tolerance with my particular copy of the product. This is pretty annoying to me, but not a deal breaker.
The other complaint I had/have is that the plastic snap bases on the bottom of the blades break off after a while. They are not that durable. That sucks. That's also another reason why I just bought a new one when my battery stopped charging.
The battery is also (I think) an old fashioned NiMH type which is not very powerful or efficient. Also doesn't hold a charge for very long.
The knife is powerful enough to cut what I use it for, when fully charged. Overall I think it's worth what they're charging for it, as long as you are very careful with it and don't let the electric parts get wet and keep it charged.
