I don't think the other reviewer knew how to care for a wooden cutting board. NEVER soak your wooden board in WATER. To keep a nice wooden board (like this one) from cracking, you need to apply some mineral oil to the board. My husband and I found some cheap mineral oil in our local Wal-Mart, heavily applied the oil so it would soak into the wood, and have enjoyed it with no problems ever since. The oils prevent water, or other watery substances or food substances to soak down into the board; it also prevents the board from cracking or splitting. :)
You may have to reapply the oil ever so often...we used ours at our wedding reception, and have only oiled it once, and it still works wonderfully! Very classy board (and sturdy)!

Snow River began in Vermont in a small shop along the Connecticut River. Although no longer located in its original small factory, Snow River is still dedicated to fabricating beautiful wood bowls, boards, and more. They use the best woods available, including Canadian Maple, Indiana Walnut, Pennsylvania Cherry, and Wisconsin Birch and Maple. This hefty 1.25" thick cutting board with hardwood feet is manufactured in the desirable "end grain" fashion. Visually appealing, end-grain fashioned boards are also eminently practical. Due to the vertical alignment of the wood grain, when your knife blade strikes the board, the wood grain actually separates and then returns when the knife is removed. This not only avoids crushing the grain (as occurs in horizontally-aligned boards) but it also is easier on your knife's blade. Hardwood feet keep the board elevated and safe from moisture that can be trapped underneath boards that sit flush to the counter. Made from select Northern Hardwoods, hand-sanded, and is finished with a food safe oil. 11" x 15"With its ample surface, this cutting board is ready for prepping many ingredients for a single main dish--from chopping chicken to dicing onions to mincing herbs--and is even large enough to carve and serve pork loin or another mid-sized roast. The 11-by-15-inch board has a hefty thickness of 1-1/4 inches and four wooden feet that keep it from sliding during carving and prevent moisture from building up underneath and causing damage.
This environmentally sustainable product is created from reclaimed North American hardwood that has been carefully selected for quality and purchased from mills throughout the country. Designed for more serious cooking endeavors, this cutting board is hand-crafted by skilled woodworkers in Wisconsin--an area known for its rich woodworking tradition--in a gorgeous yet purposeful end grain style. This style is comprised of multiple, rectangular end pieces of wood that are vertically consolidated into a single board. The benefit of this construction is that it is less jarring on knife blades as the grain actually provides some give when the knife strikes its surface, preventing blades from dulling as quickly. As a finishing treatment, the wood grain is hand-sanded and rubbed with a food-grade oil to protect it against cracking and warping.
