This machine is nearly 1.5 to 2 minutes faster in cooking things than was our old, not so old, microwave (we have it in the staff kitchen of our nonprofit social services agency). The user's guide is not well written and can be very confusing at times, but employing common sense helps to overcome the poor skills of the manual writer. By remembering that it's easy to use, you can then make sense of the step by step ladder to confusion. Nevertheless, the capabilities of this machine are appreciated by us all.Customer Review: suggestion for buyers

My Sharp Convection Microwave is great & does everything beautifully except browning toast. I ordered a service contract from Amazon simultaneously - which I advise buyers to do. 1st year is factory waranteed & service contract covers 2nd year. Problems with thermostat arose & are being cured by a local authorized Sharp repair service- at no cost to me & should another problem arise I am well-covered at minimal cost. This is my 2nd Sharp convection microwave- the 1st lasted thru 10 yrs of very hard use.Customer Review: Excellent value and performance

I am quite impressed with this oven. After catching my last microwave on fire (my fault), I decided to purchase something with convection capabilities. I cooked for a living and taught culinary classes and really missed what a convection can do. Though this is not a commercial quality convection oven, it is awesome for the home. I use it more now that I do my gas oven! It browns beautifully and the one-ouch features seem to know exactly how to cook that frozen pizza. Check it out. Wanted to replace the counter top toaster oven and the microwave. Both were getting old and I started searching for a combination. Of course Amazon was the place to go. I tried another place and nearly spent more money and would have been unhappy with the unit. Luckily they were of stock and I ended up at Amazon.
The unit is remarkable, replaces two units. It is not easy to find a combination unit that is not over the range hood system.
2 months and so far it works faboulous.

The Sharp R-820JS is a nice package: microwave, convection, space saving size, and professional looking case (silver). The unit seems to have plenty of power, and is easy-to-use. Futhermore, you can move the unit without breaking your back.
One critism: Sharp could easily have designed a better digital readout. My digital display is virtually unreadable when viewed from above (the unit sits on a counter that is not eye level). From eve level, the diisplay is adequate.
