Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sharp R-216LS Compact Size 0.8 Cu-Foot Microwave, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Very good microwave for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

It's a nice size for an apartment or college dorm. It's slightly bigger than the smallest microwaves out there which means it's able to fit large dishes/bowls. For the most part it's a good buy at this price. It has stainless steel front panels. The two things I didn't like about this unit is the door is pretty loud when you close it. Also the LCD is not backlit so you need to turn on the light to see the time. Also when you open the door the inside of the microwave does not light up. It only lights up during heating. The carousel is not noisy like some of the reviewers say. You need to correctly align the carousel plate with the three rollers.

Customer Review: Cheap junk.

I can hardly wait until Boeing moves its manufacturing plants to the Orient, can't you?

I bought this thing because a web site told me that Sharp still made its microwave ovens in the United States. Wrong. My specimen is from Thailand, and I wish it had stayed there. Rickety at the best of times, the carousel turns like it has arthritis. The power settings seem to have been imbued with decision-making powers, and the thing is LOUD.

Next time, and it will be soon, I will opt for a more expensive, Japanese model.

Customer Review: Major Disappointment
Summary: 1 Stars

It arrived to me dented. The material is very low quality. I still wanted to give it a chance however, one day my husband was making popcorn on the popcorn setting and as soon as it was ready and he opened the door to remove, there was a very loud sound and when we went to see what the noise was and to find the plate inside the microwave had split in half!! I've owned countless microwaves in the past and nothing like this has ever happened to me or to anyone that I know. I normally don't make comments online but I thought to inform the next potential buyer. Very surprised at SHARP.

Customer Review: Will last a year and that's it.

The LCD screen only shows half the numbers. Is it a 5 or an 8? Kind of hard to use the microwave if you cant read the lcd. I bought this just days over a year ago and now it's faulty. Microwave looks nice and functions nicely. There must have been a penny or two pinched on the lcd. I have calculators with the same technology that have lasted for 20 years. It's not a part that can be replaced yourself. So here goes a service call. I'll bet the repair costs more than the microwave. More to come. Other reviews for this microwave from a different distributor also lists 1 year failures.

Customer Review: Just Look's only!
Summary: 1 Stars

Thought this would be ideal in our kitchen a stainless steel microwave made by Sharp. Not even out of the box more than 45 minutes, re-packaged it and returned it! after speaking to Sharp's customer service, that was a dead end. 1. No panel light or illumination for read out. 2. Turned it on and had a loud vibration noise. 3.Once started could not stop or turn it off,had to unplug from the wall. this was poor quality and not worth the money. I ended up buying a Panasonic Microwave 0.8 Cu-Foot what a difference this unit removes all doubt and really well worth the dollar!
