Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of SewPro SP-402 QuickStitch Sewing Machine

Customer Review: Machine is temperamental but will work with some tweaking...
Summary: 1 Stars

I followed all of the instructions and, at first, could not get this machine to work in an acceptable manner. Frequently, the upper stitch would not connect with the lower (bobin) stitch. I tried various tension settings and checked all of the threading many times.

Then, I purchased a better thread for sewing machines and tried adjusting the tension settings again. I was finally able to get the product to sew correctly.

I would still have to say, this product is not for the faint of heart. But, it will work if you are tenacious!

This product is extremely cheap in price, also a cheap proctuct itself. I had a lot of problems with setting up this product and after an hour of trying to set it up I found that a very small peice was broken, so small that I could barely see it but played a very big part in how it sewed. The sellers would not refund my shipping for it and I would have to pay to ship it back, which I did not think it was worth the hassle. I bought a very nice one, Project Runway Special Edition, and it took me less than 10 min. to set up, very good stitching.

Customer Review: Good for the price
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a good little sewing machine for simple projects. It's very easy to use. There are some issues with it though...I personally don't like that it has a plastic presser foot, it doesn't hold the fabric securely enough. Also, it does take a bit of effort to maintain straight stitching. I find that top stitching can be difficult and I don't like that the "long stitch" isn't very long at all. It's a very basic machine and would be good for beginners, but once you really know how to sew, you'll want something more sophisticated.

Perhaps even the Hello Kitty sewing machine would have been better. I was raised on my mother's Singer and now use my mother-in-law's Singer. I decided to purchase a simple sewing machine just for easy hemming. After one pair of pants hemmed, this machine was unable to recover from the trauma of one job. I truly believe I did everything as instructed in the manual and the instructional DVD to no avail, and I'm not even a novice sewer. I don't think I can hand this down to my daughter to learn about sewing.

Customer Review: good for the money, but durable?
Summary: 3 Stars

We purchased this for our 6-year-old daughter after reading poor reviews on the "real toy sewing machines." This machine is working well with basic functions. We are concerned about the number of plastic parts & durability. The tension knob is also an issue, as it spins forward or backward with no indication of how far your tension is set to tight/loose. We played around to find a comfortable tension, then used a permanent marker to mark the knob. It's a great starter machine (if it survives).
