Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of SewPro SP-402 QuickStitch Sewing Machine

Customer Review: A terrible waste of money!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this thinking it would be a great cheap way for me to get started sewing. Bad idea! They get you with the "sample" that they put on every machine to make you think they will all work, but it's just junk. I had my mother and my grandmother (both experts with sewing machines) try to get this machine to thread properly, and nothing. It can't sew on anything except really thick cloth, otherwise it jams and picks up too much thread, making lots of loops and getting tangled up. The worst is they're going to take half of the cost of this back when I return it because I didn't have time to try it until recently. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CHEAP JUNK! If you really want to get into sewing, pay the extra $40 and get a singer or a WELL made brand. QuikStitch should be ashamed of this incredibly poorly made product.

Customer Review: Great Product for the Money!

I'm 21, and this is my first sewing machine (I'm used to hand-stitching)

After just a little while, I was making and finishing a sweatsuit using this machine - it works great, and like others have said, if you're having trouble with it, you probably just need to check to make sure it's set up correctly. Everytime there was a problem, it was due to my error, not machine malfuncion.

Also, the complaints about the needle being hard to thread are not really fair - any needle is somewhat difficult to thread! However you can adjust the height of the needle or use the threading device that is included.

Overall, this is a wonderful product. I may invest in one of the more expensive brands of sewing machine later on, but this one will serve me well for a long time to come.

Customer Review: Very happy with this product

I bought this machine because I needed something to hem up some pants for my children and myself. I didn't have alot of money to spend on a full size sewing machine so I decided to purchase this one. It's great. It's so small so it doesn't take up alot of room in my little apartment. It's also very easy to use. I never used a sewing machine and with the easy to follow instructions, I caught on quickly. It hems up pants perfectly and I was able to hem a pair of jeans with no problems. It doesn't have a light but as long as you have enough light in the room you are working in it's OK. I haven't tried repairing anything yet but if it hems jeans, I am sure it will fix anything. I would recommend this to anyone who has never used a sewing machine and doesn't want to spend alot of money on one.

Customer Review: not bad for under $40
Summary: 3 Stars

It took me 20 minutes to set up the machine and thread the bobbin and needle; the instruction booklet and pictures were excellent. I had no problem sewing a decent stitch on the sample thin piece of cloth they provided on my 1st try (I'm a novice), but had considerably more difficulty trying to hem a pair of twill jeans. Possible issues: (1) material may have been too thick, and I was trying to stitch 3 layers together (2) you have to go fairly slow or it won't put down a stitch, (3) tension issues? So it's not perfect, but given that having pants hemmed in my town costs $15+, this is what I needed. Given what I've read of the other $100 machines, I'm not sure they're any better -- if you want something better, I'm guessing you have to go up to $150 or $200.

Customer Review: Great for what it is and what I need
Summary: 4 Stars

I needed a sewing machine to stitch together the toys my dog ripped apart and to make him new ones. I had never used a sewing machine in my life, and so I researched a lot of the lower-priced machines on Amazon and Jo-Ann Fabrics. I opted for this machine because I wanted a food pedal and an AC power source.

For a beginner's machine, I think it's great. I'm learning how to sew, how to thread the machine, and how to be patient (which I discovered is very important). When I actually get the hang of things are start working on clothing, I'll upgrade to a fancy machine with all sorts of stitches and lights and doodads. For right now, my dog likes the stitching of this machine, I like the ease of use, and my fiance likes how small it is.
