Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Screwpull S1415-31 4-Wheel Foil Cutter, BlackCustomer Review: Who knew you needed a foil cutter? Summary: 5 Stars
I thought this was a silly product...how hard is it to cut foil? But when we got our firsr Screwpull, the foil cutter came with it...and wow! You do need one! A quick twist of the wrist, the foil is off. So when our son had gotten a screwpull that didn't have a foil cutter with it, he put this on his Wish List.
While the foil cutter is great, the screwpull bottle opener is even better. Works better than any other corkscrew I've ever used, including some that are much more expensive. Opening a bottle of wine is easy now!
Customer Review: It does one thing and it does it well. Summary: 5 Stars
I know it's not classy, but I've always used the point of the corkscrew to score the foil, which I then peeled by hand from the neck of the bottle. With my new Screwpull corkscrew, though, the tip doesn't extend beyond the guards -- so I had to find another way.
This little fellow, with its four cutting wheels, effectively decapitates the foil so that the top pulls off the bottle like a little cap.
Pretty foolproof, works every time! It would make a great stocking-stuffer!
Customer Review: Works great! Summary: 4 Stars
I have traditionally employed a sharp knife or scissor blade to get past the bottle foil at some risk. This device offers a a safer and less clumsy way to get the job done. Simply place it over the top of the bottle so that the four cutting wheels are lined up with the neck and grasping the body of the bottle, rotate the bottle. When the top of the foil is cut, pop it off and there's the cork. The build quality suggests a long life and it has now earned a spot in my utensils drawer.
Customer Review: Works well. Eventually breaks. Summary: 3 Stars
I've had this item for probably 15 years. It does a nice job of neatly cutting off the foil tops on all non-champagne wine bottles. Red, white, rose (does anyone actually drink rose?)
Eventually, the plastic holding the little metal cutters started to crack from stress. I repaired the plastic after it cracked all the way through, and this lasted another 6-12 months. It's finally broken beyond repair. Seems like a design issue. Will be looking at the newer model.
Customer Review: everyone needs one Summary: 4 Stars
this is a fantastic item for anyones kitchen .. weather you are a social or daily drinker .. it is so much easier than pulling out a steak knife and trying not to slice your hand while cutting the foil .. this is so simple just sit it on top of the bottle, slightly squeeze turn around the bottle once, and presto your foil just falls off no fuss and no mess .. i loved it so much i bought two more for gifts .. these foil cutters go for as much as $20.00 plus in gourmet magazines ..
