I've had this kettle for many months after years of heating water in the microwave. My sister got the Hamilton Beach kettle and I saw that an electric kettle is the way to go. Why wear out my over the range microwave prematurely when its going to be such a pain to replace it?
This kettle works great (as does hers). It's fast, it does what it's supposed to, it's kind of cool looking, what with the blue light and all. The blue light is a nice quick look to see if it's still heating or plugged in or what have you. Here's the rub for me. I am small boned, not the strongest wrists in the world. In a nutshell, this one is not as ergonomic for me as the Hamilton Beach model. When I'm only making one cup, it's okay, but if the kettle is full, when I try to pour it, it is a strain on my wrist. Much more so than the HB.
On the other hand, if you have shoulder problems (impingement, rotator cuff issues, etc.), I think that the HB puts your shoulder into a more provocative position (internally rotated) for impingement than this one because the starting position just to grab the handle is closer to horizontal than this one, which is vertical. Especially if you are short relative the height of the counter.
So, if you have orthopedic problems with some part of your pouring extremity, take the handle position into consideration. Hope this is helpful.
