What an amazing product this is! In the two weeks I've had it, I've grilled steak, burgers, chicken, salmon and veggies and they're every bit as tasty as food grilled outdoors.
If you follow the instructions, the grill will not smoke. Cleanup is easy; be sure you spray the surface with a non-stick spray and it can be wiped off after use. The grill surface on this small-sized model can easily fit into the dishwasher. Placing aluminum foil over the drip pan will keep it free of buildup.
I'm a condo dweller and it is impractical for me to have an outdoor grill. The Sanyo HPS-SG2 is a wonderful alternative, with no propane to haul around and no mess to scrub off.
I love my new grill and give it five stars!!!

I've used it to gril fish, chicken, and hamburgers. I've used it to grill cheese (of the sandwich variety), vegetables, and sausages. It definitely gets the job done, and it gives me a lot of room to do so. Compared to my previous grill, the simple Foreman grill, which allowed me to grill two small chicken breasts, this is a definite improvement.
However, it's still a bit of a pain to clean up, although what grill isn't? It gets hot, and I there isn't much variation in temperature when setting the knob to a certain setting. The best way to clean it is after heating it up for a few minutes, and wiping it down quickly with a wet paper towel. Put foil in the drip tray to minimize cleanup there.

I purchased this product because I want to grill meats while draining off the fat. I previously owned 2 George Foreman grills that I was unhappy with because they didn't have enough power to grill meats, chicken would turn out grey and steaks weren't charred enough.
This Sanyo has more grilling power so chicken and meats can be well charred and cooked thoroughly. I wished it was the clamshell-type cooker to cook both sides at once that also reduces the splattering. The George Foreman units also were easier to clean as the grills can be removed and put in the dishwasher. This Sanyo unit has a large grill with the electrical connection in it that shouldn't be put in the dishwasher.

I was so excited to get this as I wanted to make healthier food after a few health problems. It worked fine the first time I use it. Then the 2nd time onwards, it just refused to heat up! No matter how high I put the temp, the grill remain cool. There are no instructions on how to troubleshoot this and I'm lost at how I can get this fixed.
I bought this from Amazon US and I live in Singapore to exchange or return it is going to cost me more than what it cost in buying it. I'm so disappointed with Sanyo and this product.
I do NOT recommend anyway to waste their money on this product. Go buy something that can guarantee you meals for many years and not just one time.

For those of us who don't have the luxury of having convention grills, this Sanyo grill make a very good replacement. Although you won't get the classic flavor of a normal charcoal grill, this grill still produces meat that is very tasty. With the adjustable temperature control and grill lines, you get food that is evenly cooked without drying out the meat (like the Foreman grill). The grill also takes very little time to warm up (about 5 minutes). Cleanup is also easy since both the cooking surface and the drip tray have non-stick coating. They are also both dishwasher safe. All in all, this is a great grill for price that uses minimal time for cleanup.
