I just recently purchased this rice cooker, and I have to admit I had some hesitation after reading some reviews. My first time using it was disastrous; I put in 2 cups of rice and followed the instruction manual about how much water to use. I walked away and came back to sticky steam and a huge sticky mess. My rice was also way overcooked and looked like mashed potatoes. This steamer takes some tinkering, but if you ignore the booklet and measure the water by what you think will work (WAY less than what the book says) you'll get great rice and perfect vegetables. Ever since I figured that out, I've been using it almost every day! The cooker also automatically turns to "warm" when the water runs out so there's no danger of burning anything. And you can always add more water if you decide the rice is too dry.
I also debated between this size and the smaller 3 cup one, and even though it's mostly just for me, I'm glad I went with the larger size. With this one you could easily make a vegetable side for 4 people or enough food to have leftovers. Definitely glad I purchased this!
