Customer Review: The scale that does not weigh

Removing the scale from the packaging I was surprized at how little it weighed and how cheap and plastic it felt. I doubt there is one metal piece in the whole thing. Examining the box I found the infamous made in china label, the universal stamp of no quality.
As the subject suggests, this is a scale that does not weigh accurately. Brand new out of the package the scale would not consistantly weigh a 1lb 3lb, 5lb or combination of these handweights accurately.
I calibrated the scale at 0 and weighed the 1lb, 3lb and 5lb weight. Repeated weighs gave different results, off by as much as a full pound! I calibrated the scale at 1lb and repeated the test, which yielded the same bad results.
This scale definitely looks nice, but how useful is one that won't weigh accurately? Poor purchase, bad decision on my part, I should have know that for $13 I'd get another piece of overseas made, horrible quality plastic product to throw in the Goodwill drawer. I will now search out a quality Made in the USA scale.

This high capacity 11-pound mechanical kitchen scale has a large clear dishwasher safe bowl, perfect for recipes that require many ingredients. It has a heavy duty steel mechanism that weighs in 1ounce 25 gram increments for impressive precision and comes with a 10 year warranty. Easy to store, the scale fits neatly inside the bowl.There?s something pleasantly uncomplicated about a mechanical scale, with no buttons to push or batteries to replace. This classic kitchen model comes with a detachable clear plastic weighing container measuring 8-1/2 by 6-1/2 by 3 inches, generous enough to hold more than six cups of liquid or a pound of bulky dried pasta. To use, simply position the container on top of the scale and turn the knob on the back until the dial needle registers zero. Add and weigh food as needed. Resetting to zero after each ingredient is added enables an entire recipe to be combined in one bowl. If acidic or strongly colored foods such as oranges, curries, and tomatoes are to be weighed, it?s a good idea to line the container with plastic wrap first to prevent discoloration. The container is dishwasher-safe, but should not be used in a microwave. The 5-inch dial shows both imperial and metric, in 1-ounce increments up to 11 pounds, and 25-gram increments up to 5 kilograms.
