Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of SPT 1.2-Liter Stainless Cordless KettleCustomer Review: beautiful kettle, smaller size Summary: 5 Stars
Nice cordless kettle. Note it is 1.2 liter - sometime it is very nice to have this slightly smaller size (most of the cordless kettles seem to be about 1.7 liter). It has a stainless/metal body for those who hate plastic. Well designed placement of plastic so that the hands are protected from hot metal. This includes on the handle, and on the lid for popping it open or for habitual holding of the top while pouring. Weighting is nice, it seems balanced when holding it filled with water.
Design was fine. Lid pops open. Top opening is a little small for my hands to reach in if I wanted to scrub it out. Element is not exposed, however, so just clean space for the water. Kettle has the usual inside mesh filter on the pour-spout. Compared to the Tfal vitesse 1.7 liter (which I have 3 and have been using for years)- it is a bit more important to not fill above the 'max' fill line. The first time I did that I noticed water around the kettle - I was worried at first that perhaps it was leaking, but I suspect what really happened was that it bubbled out the spout during the boiling. It hasn't happened again, but I've warned my spouse to not cross the line!
I didn't time the 'heating' of a cup of water, but things seemed normal for the first few test boils I did before letting my spouse take it away to his office. It boiled quickly. It appeared to shut off in standard amount of time after water came to boil.
It came with warnings that the automatic shutoff might not work properly at high altitudes (defined as over 600' above sea level). I've not noticed this warning quite so prominently displayed with my other cordless kettles (the Tfals) but I got those a long time ago so maybe this is new reminder. (We take a Tfal cordless kettle to trips in the mountains in Colorado - and haven't had a problem so I don't know how seriously to take this warning or whether this kettle has some settings differently set than our others.)
