Customer Review: Big disapointment

I've owned this machine for about 5 years now and I cannot wait until I can afford another machine. I grew up sewing on my mom and grandmother's Singer machines as well as school machines. So when I received this one as a wedding gift I had high expectations even though it is a very basic model. I have been very, very disapointed! Projects that would ordinarily take me under an hour can be stretched out to two or three hours because at any random moment this piece of crap will decide to just eat my material and require dismantaling the entire thing to extract my project. The bobin setup is very problematic, I am constantly taking the bobin casing apart to get out huge tangles of thread that have somehow wedged themselves in random places and freeze up the machine. But one of my biggest complaints is the thread tension. Depending on the amount of thread left on my bobin I have to change the thread tension, this is incredibly inconvienient and unless I take the bobbin out to look at the levels I have to guess, which often results in my thread snapping. but if I don't change it periodically I get all sorts of weird thread bunching and other issues. Please do now waste your money on this machine, I'm not doing anything fancy by any means, I do simple mend jobs,small household projects, basic patchwork quilts and the occasional outfit for my girls and quite frequently a small job that I begin at about 9pm after my girls go to bed will end up with me in tears or muttering curses under my breath at 1am, sometimes with my project done, sometimes without any real progress, or sometimes with my project completely ruined. It has gotten to the point where I usually don't even dare use my machine, I end up going to a friend or family's home to use their machine to work on things. Please spare yourself some frustration and go with another machine, another $50 will get you a Singer that actually works!
