One of our local drug stores has a well stocked aisle of, 'as seen on TV,' items. My dear hubby loves to peruse this aisle, checking out each item, always mumbling, 'I wonder if this thing really works.' Truly, it's a fascination; harmless, I thought.
One day he came home toting a plastic bag---a bag from THAT store, announcing he had 'GIFTS' for ME; he was beaming. You'd have thought he had a dozen, long-stemmed roses, and a serious box of chocolates. I steeled myself for what was to come. First I pulled out a 'generic' Sham Wow---not even the real thing, along with some other gadget I've yet to figure out; then I dove deep for my final treasure---the Samurai Shark. Are you feelin' my joy here? They have perfume in that store, and, bubble bath---or how about one of those 'as seen on TV' Ped Eggs; one with the free Miracle Foot Cream. Those are girlie 'gifts.'
Anyway, months went by and DH kept asking if I had tried out my knife sharpener yet. I just couldn't; I had to restrain myself. But, the day finally came, when I felt a unique sense of control and thought I'd give the thing a try, when I was too busy to bring out my 2-stage, electric knife sharpener.
Good chefs will tell you, that you're more likely to cut yourself with a dull knife. Yeah, they're right, but when you DO cut yourself with a really sharp one, let me tell you---it leaves a mark. Suffice it to say, my little Samurai Shark works---and darn well, too. I have the bandage on my finger to prove it, at this very moment, and I barely touched that dang blade. DH's response, 'WOW, it really works!' Yes, another 'as seen on TV' product put to the test.
Kidding aside, this does a great job for quick touch-ups between my 2-stage system, or professional sharpening. I like it so much that I forgive DH for gifting me with a knife sharpener, particularly since he was able to promptly find the minor emergency kit. Now, I'm just gonna hunker-down, in my University of TX Snuggie (another 'gift' deserving of a review of its own), and mend.
