Customer Review: its noisy and my unit leaked grease

This unit appears solid and well built, I have ordered the Roman as a replacement and will comment on that separately.
Many other reviews have commented on the noise that this unit makes. I got mine, mated it with the lower half of my 60lb artificial tree, and turned it on. There is a very audible noise of a tapping nature, likely the auto reverse clutch that keeps it from turning if it gets stuck, and should reverse it in that situation.
I tried it again with both the lower and middle sections of the tree but it was only tolerably silent when a cord accidentally wrapped itself around the base, I could never get it to consistently be quiet.
When I was repacking it to send it back I noticed what seemed to be gear grease that had come out of the unit at the top and may either have been an artifact of or the cause of the noise. Other than that it ran fine, but I would make sure you have a free return policy before I would buy one of these.
The noise would probably not be troublesome if you were playing music or had a crowd, but in a silent room it is.

This rotating tree base can be used for 4-1/2´ to 7-1/2´ tree but the dimension of the tree trunk must be 1.25".
