Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Rösle 12782 Garlic PressCustomer Review: A kitchen staple Summary: 5 Stars
If a kitchen tool has some weakness, I'll keep looking for something better, but this tool is a keeper and here's why. The most important thing for me in a garlic press is how easy it is to clean. I expect it to crush the garlic, that's a given, but after that, if the cleaning is not easy, it's not going to last long with me. All the presses I tried prior to settling on this one had to be taken apart or scraped out or worked over with the dish brush so no matter how effective it was, I wasn't completely satisfied and kept searching. With this press, when you open it completely (the handles essentially reverse), the crushing cradle pops up and is completely exposed (but still attached to the unit) so it can be easily rinsed off under hot running water. I never have to touch the garlic residue. I do generally use peeled cloves since that gives me the best result, both the crushing and the cleanup. (I generally clean a whole head at once and store the excess cloves in a small jar for quick use later. They last a long time in the fridge and are very handy.)
The second thing about this press that suits my style is that when you hang it by the loop on one handle, the press hangs completely straight down. In other words, it opens all the way. I have a rack that stores my most used devices so they offer something of a decorative effect as well as being very easy to grab when needed. This unit is suited for display. It's good looking as well as functional.
That said, I don't use it to mince garlic, only to crush it. To mince garlic, nothing beats my Alligator mini-dicer for fast perfect tiny dice. That's especially true if I want to mince multiple cloves since nothing is faster or gives such an even result, but sometimes a recipe calls for crushed garlic that is more 'processed'. In those cases this press is what I use and I'm so satisfied with it I've never felt the need to look any further. I've used it for several years and it still looks and functions like new. Highly recommended.
Description of Rösle 12782 Garlic PressWhat distinguishes ROSLE products from all others is the careful attention that's given to every detail. Each item is flawless in design, streamlined to suit particular prepwork tasks. A combination of maximum performance with timeless design that's won them many awards. Their stainless steel garlic press lets you press out the juices from the garlic, leaving the fibrous material behind. A loop on the handle lets you hang from your ROSLE open kitchen storage system.. One of Rösle's superb kitchen tools, this 9-inch garlic press minces even unpeeled cloves of garlic with a cunningly engineered lever mechanism that requires minimal pressure. Another nice touch is the mincing head that flicks open for easy rinsing. Pressing the handles afterward locks them together for storage. Like all Rösle tools, utensils, and Open Kitchen storage components, the garlic press is made of 18/10 stainless steel for rustproof beauty and long-lasting durability. The round handles have a satin finish to conceal finger marks (in pleasing contrast to the mirror-finish head). The handles are sealed against water, and one handle has a hanging ring so the garlic press can be conveniently stored on a hook in the Open Kitchen system of Rösle basic rails and Gridwalls or hung on any hook or peg. The garlic press is sturdy, balanced, and exceptionally comfortable in the hand. It's dishwasher-safe and carries a lifetime warranty against defects.
