Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Rival S12P 12-Inch Electric SkilletCustomer Review: Great Food Warmer! Summary: 3 Stars
The Rival S12P 12-Inch Electric Skillet makes a great food warmer, but jury is still out about whether it makes a great frying pan. The non-stick surface it first rate, easy to clean. The lid is thoughtfully designed, but I have some issues regarding the temperature control probe. 1) The location of the temp. probe. Why is it located on the front? (rather than on the side- typical in most models). I don't have an electrical outlet on the front of my kitchen counter! Mine is above the backsplash (behind the frying pan). This is an awkward configuration unless you turn the pan sideways. This could either be good or bad, depending on your kitchen. 2) The temp. probe sticks out too far (4-1/2"). I have a small kitchen, so counter space is premium, 4-1/2" inches seems like a mile. 3) Temp. probe is always cycling between on/off mode (on 5 seconds/off 30 seconds). It seems to take much longer to actually cook food vs. my Presto frying pan (20 seconds on/20 seconds off). If you want a frying pan to keep food warm, I would give this frying pan 5 stars. If you want it to actually brown your hashbrowns, then I recommend you buy a Presto, or a more expensive Rival model.
Customer Review: At home on the range! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I fell in love with the 1935 gas stove in our home that we purchased last year. When we found out how much work it took to refurbish the stove, however, we realized we would have to rely on other appliances in the kitchen during the time it took to bring the stove back to life. This electric skillet far surpassed our expectations! It's great for everything from pancakes and omelettes to stews and stirfry. I even use it to "grill" fish, steaks and chicken -- the nonstick surface makes it easy and the lid keeps the spatters in.The temperature range is excellent, from fryig chicken to use as a warming tray on a buffet table. Another plus: with actual temperature degrees shown on the heating element, once you know the right temp for certain dishes, they become foolproof. And, unlike the old electric skillets, you can dunk this one completely under water to wash it. Even with a fully refurbished gas range, I reach for this skillet for most of my food preparation. I've even given it to several couples as wedding presents!
Customer Review: GOOD PRODUCT AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE. Summary: 4 Stars
THIS RIVAL ELECTRIC FRYING PAN WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL VALUE AND IS A VERY GOOD ITEM. I AM HAVE PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS THAT RESTRICT MY ACCESS TO THE KITCHEN. I USE THIS FRYING CONTINUALLY. THE HEAT STAYS AT THE CORRECT TEMPERATURE AND FOOD COOKS EVENLY AND IN A TIMELY MANNER. AN ADDED UNEXPECTED FEATURE IS I ALSO USE THE FRYING PAN AS A GRILL AND AS A STEAMER TO HEAT BUNS, ROLLS AND BREAD. THE COOKING SURFACE IS NON-STICK AND REQUIRES LITTLE CLEAN UP.
THE ONLY FEATURE THAT NEEDS A LITTLE MORE WORK IS THE IS THE HANDLES: THEY NEED TO BE LITTLE STRONGER AND THE THE RUBBER TIPS THAT THE PAN STANDS ON SHOULD BE BIGGER AND OF A BETTER NON SLID MATERIAL.
FINALLY, I REPEAT, THIS RIVAL ELECTRIC FRYING PAN IS AN EXCEPTIONAL PRODUCT AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT AND RATE IT A -PLUS.
Customer Review: Best electric frying pan I've ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
I cook a lot and I consider the electric frying pan as one of the best kitchen appliances ever invented. THIS pan is the best one I've ever owned. I love the spacious size and the tall sides that let me make just about ANYTHING in it! The lid has a handy closeable vent, and the pan itself doesn't have those enormous bulky legs (Black & Decker, are you listening?) that prevent it from fitting into the sink.
If this pan has a flaw, it's with the window in the lid -- a good idea (I have glass lidded pots and pans) but the window is always too coated with condensation to see through -- plus, it's under the handle and dark inside the pan. Oh well -- it certainly doesn't affect the way this pan works, and it works GREAT. Plus, it's a great price -- you just can't lose.
Customer Review: Best Electric Skillet on the Market! Summary: 5 Stars
My old electric skillet was finally put to rest this past week. Now I needed a new electric skillet. I wanted one which had a Dupont nonstick coating, would not wiggle or move across the counter when I stirred its contents, and it would be nice to see how the food was progressing without having to remove the cover. I typed electric skillet into the heading on Amazon and Viola! I found the electric skillet of my dreams! The skillet is deep, you can fit a whole chicken in it! Cleanup is a breeze with the Dupont teflon coating. The window in the lid is nice, now I don't have to lift the lid to check on the meal I am preparing. One of the best features is the rubber grip handles/feet, no sliding around on the counter when you are stirring the contents of the skillet.
