Customer Review: Rival just can't get things right

I hope this review helps others avoid the mistake the rest of us made when purchasing this appliance. I wanted a medium size electric griddle and this seemed perfect -- electronic digital display of the temperature, it beeps when it reaches the set temperature, a non-stick surface, handy little drip tray that's easily removed, as is the main griddle part. First of all, the electric cord is so ridiculously short (I'm guessing about 18") you have to be jammed next to an outlet on your kitchen counter. Strike one. Next, the griddle runs about 50 to 75 degrees cooler than what the digital display claims. I'm only guessing here, because I learned by trial and error to turn it higher than my recipes instructed, just to get food actually cooking instead of sitting there warming. For example, bacon and sausage cook at 400, not 350 as Rival's little instruction booklet says, French toast cooks properly at 425, not 350. Strike two. Finally, the non-stick surface is just so-so -- I have only used this thing a few times but the surface is already stained, always a sign of cheap non-stick material. Strike three. Very disappointing, considering what the griddle costs and it's not even a huge size, more like a medium.

On the positive side, now that I know it needs to be set higher for food to actually cook, I can deal with that. It's very easy to take apart, clean and put back together. Thus the two stars.

Very odd that Rival's slow cookers are too hot yet this griddle runs way too cool. They really need to get their appliance act together and next time I'll check reviews before making a purchase. My bad.
