Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Rival 4071-WN 32-Ounce Hot Pot Express, WhiteCustomer Review: It's Easy To Brake Down Summary: 2 Stars
I've liked this kinda hot pot since I was still in College. I used to have the older version of this which I think had thicker material and seemed to be stronger and also last longer than this newer version. ... I bought this new version of rival hot pot express from amazon about a couple of months ago. It had worked great to be used to cook ramen noodles, in fact; that's what its main purpose for me. Until about 3 days ago, it suddenly broke down. It was just completely dead when I tried to use it. I dunno what's caused it. I was very dissapointed, cuz since I used it from the first time It's never had any problems, never fell down, nor ever had any problems with the power outage(which in most cases is the main cause of electronic goods broke downs). But suddenly, it's just dead. I had used my old one(the older version which I mentioned in the beginning)for about 2 years and It's never given me any problems, not even once. Anyway, my conclusion about this pot is that, This newer version/model has been made with lower quality than the older one so it's certainly worse than the older one. Is there any warranty from you amazon?? since I bought this item just in recent and it suddenly broke down. That would be great if I could get a replacement for the one I bought. Thanks!
Customer Review: Basic heating Summary: 3 Stars
The hot pot does the basic job of keeping a liquid hot. front allows A variable thermostat control allows for a rolling boil of water at the mid-position.
The hinged lid snaps into place and is held by a tab on the spout. Hard to open the lid when the pot is filled with hot water. Pour too fast and water comes over the side edges of the spout. The wide size makes pouring from the full pot a little difficult.
I would rather have a glass or metal lined pot and not have heated food or water sitting in plastic but I think all these products are plastic.
In my kitchen, when I removed the plug from the outlet it was very hot. But this could be a problem in my house. I'm leaving this plugged in Friday night waiting to see if there's a problem the next day.
Holmes, the manufacturer seems to make low-end appliances, made in China of course, that hold up reasonably well. The hot pot plastic looks suspiciously like the plastic use for the Holmes window fan!
Conclusion: It does what it says at an inexpensive price. Compared to other hot water "air pump" units at $45 this is economical and basic appliance. I am concerned about health issues of hot food sitting in plastic made in China.
Customer Review: convenient fast cooking Summary: 5 Stars
I have used the Hot Pot Express for years to steam veggies, just set a timer, cook,
then add light oil and spices. One warning that I finally got in the enclosure, is
that it is NOT intended for cooking with fats and oils, I assume because it gets too
hot and overrides the temperature safety mechanism, which will degrade, or
completely shut off heating function, which will also happen if the unit it left
unattended, it will shut down so as to not cause a fire (and will then not be useable,
that is, time to get a new one).
NOTE that steaming requires something to hold the food up out of the water,
namely a device that looks like a metal expanding flower that is sold in many
grocery stores in the cooking utensils section, though it is frequently not in stock
at any given time, probably because they last a long time.
The combination is a fast and convenient way to put food on the table in 10 minutes
when coming home from work hungry -- just let it cool down to edible temperature.
NOTE ALSO that the Hot Pot is NOT meant to be submerged in water when cleaning.
OVERALL PRODUCT RATING - ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC -- likewise buying on Amazon
Customer Review: Cheap but lots of usages Summary: 5 Stars
First this thing is very durable. I wash it in the sink and let it dry and it would work just fine. Compare this to my other cheap coffee maker which short-circuited itself just with a little wet bottom this thing is worth its price.
Second, the Teflon bottom is good for cooking but if you put spice etc in it some of it will stay and next time if you brew pure water it would have taste. I recommend you buy another kettle for boiling water only as this one is too fat to use frequently and conveniently anyway. The levels don't work as you would like as it still boils water even in the lower settings so it's basically a heat/warm switch as opposed to fully adjustable temp. However...
Third, it can be used to as a little cooker and can cook just like a pot. I cook noodles, rice, porridge, soup and even hot-pot with it and it works fine as long as you have enough water in it to heat it up. After some heavy use the bottom become kinda sticky but it's very easy to wash and it still heats up quickly so no problem there.
Finally, the cap is detachable, which is a plus for cooking, it could use a detachable cord imo but considering the price I'm very satisfied with it.
Customer Review: Great for college and beyond Summary: 4 Stars
I received this little kettle as a graduation present 4 years ago and it's still going. One of my highschool teachers my senior year used this little kettle in her classroom to eat up everything from water to her soups and leftover for lunch. I decided it would go great in my dorm room so it got added to my graduation present wish list.
I used this little baby to heat water for tea. I also warmed up apple cider in the fall. It went into a bit of disuse when I started renting an apartment off campus, but now I've found another great daily use for it.
I have recently started using a French press for brewing coffee and I knew I'd have to find a way to heat my water. I was going to spend upwards of $30-40 on a nice stovetop kettle, but then I remembered this little guy was tucked away in my kitchen cabinets. I dusted it off and man it does a great job. I get nice hot water in no time whatsoever!
It might not be fancy or look especially pretty, but it does its job wonderfully. I do wish the kettle itself had an on/off switch but hey unplugging it every time isn't that big of a deal. Buy this kettle and you won't regret it.
