Customer Review: Very Convinient

I have had one of these for many years now, and I have to say it is wonderful and useful. I use it to boil water for my teapot, I do not, however, make tea or soup or anything else for that matter directly in this hotpot. There have been complaints of a plastic taste in the water from at least one other reviewer. You may encounter this if you decide to place something other than just water in this pot (this has happened to an old pot at my workplace that people use for soup). Mine has lasted for years (and I use it almost daily) without trouble or plastic break-down.
Update: I feel it fair to update this as it's been a while since I rated this item. I've slowly tried to phase out nonstick and plastics from my kitchen and the plastic on this item eventually started to discolor (after about 4-5 years of use) and I noticed mineral deposits on the nonstick heating element - possibly more an indication of the water quality where I have lived. These days, I use a stainless electric kettle for boiling water: Breville SK500XL Ikon Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle. My needs and culinary concerns are much different than when I originally purchased the Rival Express as an undergraduate living in a dorm. I have also used a Chef's Choice brand stainless steel kettle while in my parents' kitchen. Both of these options are more expensive than the Rival, and are best suited for boiling water, but work very well and leave no room for concern of plastics or 'nonstick coating' breaking down into your water. If you're just looking to boil water and price isn't the only concern then I'd recommend a newer model with a stainless interior.
Additionally, I expect my stainless kettle to last as long as me. With heavy use, I did eventually wear this out after 4-5 years. I've had my stainless for half as long so far, but with no plastic to worry me, I expect to work for my grandkids (as a grandchild who inherited many of the items from my grandmother's kitchen, I'll say the plastic ones all went first). However, you can easily replace this Rival 3 times for the price of a newer stainless kettle.
