Customer Review: Best white wine glasses

These are called Sauvignon Blanc, but we use them mostly for Chardonnay. They are a bit taller and in our opinion MUCH nicer looking that Riedel's Chardonnay glasses. I don't have anything bad to say about these glasses - they really are fantastic for white wine.

These Vinum Sauvignon Blanc glasses are made of 24-percent lead crystal by Riedel, makers of fine glassware. Wine connoisseurs will particularly appreciate the care and design that goes into making sure each Vinum glass is the perfect shape for enhancing the bouquet and flavor of specific varietals. The distinct bowl shape directs the wine to a specific area on the palate, so each note can be appreciated and savored. Both simple, yet elegant, these stems complement any dinnerware pattern. This Riedel Sauvignon Blanc glass is recommended for drinking Sauvignon blanc, Semillion, Chenin Blanc, Fume Blanc; essentially, lighter white wines. Introduced in 1986, the Vinum collection is based exclusively on the characteristics of grape varietals, meaning the content commands the shape.Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the wine within. Beautifully balanced and with just the right mixture of delicacy and stability, the two glasses in this set are designed especially for the enjoyment of Sauvignon Blanc, Fumé Blanc, Sancerre, and Sémillon. Standing 8-1/2 inches tall and holding 12-3/8 ounces at full capacity, each glass features a slighter longer stem and more tapered lip than the Riedel Chablis glass, in order to direct the wine to the correct zone on the palate. The set makes a superb wedding gift or adds to an existing collection for the serious wine lover.
Comprised of more than 24 percent lead crystal for superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum wine glasses are nevertheless affordable because they are machine-made rather than mouth-blown. Riedel introduced the popular Vinum line in 1986, and this particular glass in 1998. While all Vinum glassware is dishwasher-safe, Riedel recommends washing the crystal by hand to prevent detergent residue that can affect wine taste. --Ann Bieri
