Description of Riedel Vinum Rheingau/Riesling Glass, Set of 2Designed to enhance the flavors and bouquet of Riesling, these Riedel Rheingau glasses feature an elegant tulip shaped bowl with a slightly out turned lip. Comparatively, these glasses are rather dainty in the world of Riedel, making them perfect for bringing out the best in a mature Rhiengau or Riesling. Packed in a set of 2, these glasses stand 7-1/2 inches high, with a 8-1/2 ounce full capacity. Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the wine within. This particular glass is named for Germany's Rheingau, or Rhine District, which is famous for its Rieslings. The small tulip-shaped bowl features a flared lip that directs the wine to the tip of the tongue, and thus accentuates the sweet, fruity qualities of a light, dry, acidic white wine. Other wines that benefit from this glass are Pinot Grigio and unoaked Sauvignon Blanc. Each of the two thin-stemmed glasses in this set stands 7-1/2 inches tall and holds 8-1/2 ounces at full capacity. The pair makes a superb wedding gift or adds to an existing collection for the serious wine drinker. Made in Bavaria of more than 24 percent lead crystal for superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum wine glasses are nevertheless affordable because they are machine-made rather than mouth-blown. Since its introduction in 1986, the popular Vinum collection has grown to contain nearly two dozen different glasses. While all Vinum glassware is dishwasher-safe, Riedel recommends washing the crystal by hand to prevent detergent residue that can affect wine taste. --Ann Bieri
