Customer Review: Nice glass, but dangerous!

Nice glass - great shape for a wonderful wine tasting experience BUT this glass is extremely fragile and should be considered a bit dangerous. We bought 4 and I took them out of the box to begin using them. I now have 11 stitches in my hand from washing the first glass when the stem broke with very little pressure. I've washed wine glasses for years and never this result. While I was at the ER my wife went to wash the rest of ours. She knew they were fragile since I just broke one and while gingerly washing the very next one, the globe collapsed in her hand cutting her in 3 places (no stitches). We're not tough people! What if it broke while a guest was drinking? I just think this product is too fragile to be practical.

One of Riedel's most popular stems, these Vinum Burgundy/Pinot Noir wine glasses are designed to enhance the flavors of full-bodied red wines with high acidity and moderate tannin, such as Pinot Noir, Barbaresco, Barolo, Barbera, Red Burgundy, Gamay, and Nebbiolo. Introduced in 1986, the Riedel Vinum line was the first machine-made series of glasses in history to be based exclusively on the characteristics of grape varietals. The Vinum series has had a strong and permanent impact on the wine glass culture around the globe. These glasses have proven to consumers and restauranteurs that the pleasure of consuming wines starts with the glass. Developed by 10th generation Georg Riedel on the principle that the contents commands the shape, Vinum is great for everyday use. These glasses are made with over 24% lead crystal.Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the wine within. The Burgundy glass is large and rounded to allow the bouquet of a red wine to flourish. Not just any red wine, but reds high in acidity with moderate tannin levels, such as Red Burgundy and Pinot Noir. The glass helps offset the acidity of the wine by directing it right to the zone on the tongue that registers sweetness. Each beautifully balanced glass stands 8-1/4 inches tall and holds a generous 24-3/4 ounces at full capacity. This set of two makes a superb wedding gift or adds to an existing collection for the serious wine drinker.
Comprised of more than 24 percent lead crystal for superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum wine glasses are nevertheless affordable because they are machine-made rather than mouth-blown. Riedel introduced the popular Vinum line, including the Burgundy glass, in 1986.
