If you own a decanter, specially a nicer one, you will appreciate the need for something (anything!) that will help you restore its original look. Decanting red wine will invariably leave behind some traces or residues that are nearly impossible to remove depending on the shape and style of your decanter. These beads will get the job done!! They are TINY, so keep in mind that using them is a bit tricky. Still, they get 5 stars for their ease of use, and their effectiveness. If you can fit marbles into the opening of the decanter they will work also. Concerned about the cleaniless of the marbles? Boil them in water, makes a racket but sterlizes them. You can also at times clean the inside of a bottle with salt (rock salt is better harder and larger) or chips of ice, or get some small pebbles the size of a pea and use them. The ice chips will melt when you shake them around, so you might have to do 2, 3, or 4 rounds of using them but they will clean off the inside of the glass too.Customer Review: Handy and Effective

I know this seems gimmicky, but these beads really do work. Hard water stains and discoloration is removed from those areas impossible to reach. The cons would be they are a bit of a pain to work with and scatter easily if you're not careful, but once you get a system down, then no problem. I simply pour mine out of the decanter into a small strainer and then dry with a towel. Used these on a particularly stubborn stain in a wine decanter and frankly got tired of swirling with no real progress. They may work better for less challenging stains, but not in my case. However, when I combined them with a decanter cleaning brush, using them as the abrasive for the brush, then I got good results. I will use that method again in the future, but as a stand alone cleaning item, I really wasn't that impressed.Customer Review: Not quite up to the task

I had hoped that these beads would solve my problem with a badly stained decanter. After several washings, the stain was 75% removed. Perhaps if I had started using the beads earlier before the stain set I would have been more successful. The Amazon price was about half of what other Reidel dealers wanted. The beads store easily in the plastic dish after use.
