You have to be a little surprised that this Rachael Ray Cookware Set is getting such good reviews. After all, I thought that the days of the non-stick pan was over for me because of the Aluminum and Teflon we ALL want to avoid.
The recent reviews are so good on this site, and as well in so many cooking articles, that when I agonized over what set to buy my friend Jody for her birthday, they were extremely convincing. As with any thing you buy, if you can go see it first, then do that because the anodized aluminum is different, and not as durable as clad stainless steel. When I said I might get if for Jody, she swooned over it because she saw it at BBandB. When it arrived, she told all her friends, and sisters, and they were all expressing envy, so I know it is popular with the women in her circles.
I ordered this set from Amazon with the Super Saver Free shipping, and it got to me many days before the expected arrival date. It was so fast that I have to say Amazon is the best! The set arrived in perfect condition with no scratches, dents, warps, or breakage. It looks beautiful new, and the orange handles matched Jody's Italian spice boarder and wall paper, though I understand there are other colors to choose from.
My recommendation is to get the 14 piece set because of what you get above the 10 piece set. The versatility of the pots and the lids fitting every piece, even the fry pans fit the lids, so just excellent. The pot sizes for the single person or family person are great in the 14 piece set.
The quality is what I expected based upon the reviews, that is, the fry pans are heavy enough, but not too heavy, and the pots are a little thin, but not too thin. In fact, the pots seem to heat up very evenly on the electric stove burner. The fry pans work fast, and the cooking range seems to be perfect around just over medium heat. Water boiled quickly over medium heat.
Not a thing stuck to the pans or pots and cleaning was very easy. Some say that food wants to stick around the handle rivets. Since I always use just a little oil to cook with anyway, there was no sticking yet around them. I would say that since the rivets are steel, you might expect food to try and stick there, so use a little oil and treat it like steel, and it should not be a problem.
I cooked pancakes, eggs, hamburger, soup, chicken, rice, vegetables, pasta and pasta sauce right away in the various sized pots with no problems yet, and it was easy wipe out clean up. Using wood and plastic utensils there was no scratching at all. So just be careful, these pots are not stainless steel. Let them cool down before you put water in them to clean.
When looking at cookware, be sure to look at the dates of the reviews. This review is written March 16, 2011. As time goes on, companies shift producers usually to China. Look at the Cuisonart brand for example. Their MultiClad set had five star reviews up until they moved to China, and now the product and warranty is trash. Be careful to read all the bad reviews too, and look for if reviewers to have good diction, no ax to grind, and then take heed of what that review says and look at the date trends. As of this date, the Rachael Ray 14 piece Aluminum Anodized set impresses me. After long term use, I may post a progress report. I hope this was helpful.
