Customer Review: FINALLY A GOOD NIGHTS 5 Stars

I have to admit that I was pretty darn sceptical about this purchase. This was a difficult purchase for me for a number of reasons, #1 the price, #2 wondering if this would fit my needs and cover my issues, #3 wondering how the company would handle warranty if something should go wrong after the purchase, #4 worrying if these reviews were true (seemed too good to be true).

The reason I purchased this unit was to help out my family as we pinpoint either what appears to be an allergy issue to mold spores, pollen, dust or a combination. My home is only 4-5 yrs old, but we've had some leaks...we believe our toddlers have become allergic to the mold spores..or "something" because they've been sick about every two weeks and it's all been upper respiratory issues (coughing, wheezing, throat infections, ear infections, etc)....same symptoms as mold spores. So, there's no doubt, they are allergic to "something" that causing irritation in their throats and I felt like this would help since it traps dust, mold spores, pollen, etc.....while we run some tests on both the house and some allergy tests on the kids. My three year old also has had asthmatic issues since she was born so I knew this would help her breathe easier. We will also remove the carpets in our bedrooms...since all of that crap could be trapped in their as well.

Customer Service - Prior to purchasing....First, I was so sceptical that I contacted the company personally to get a better feeling of how their customer service would go after I purchased it. And to tell you the truth, I was totally in disbelief when a live person was on the other end within 1-2 minutes. She answered all of my concerns, even told me if I had any questions I could call her back and ask for her personally. She reassured me that this unit does remove mold particles and that they had a five year warranty.

My decision - All in all, I decided to take the plunge...and it was the best decision I've ever made! Last night was the first night I ran it...not a single cough from either toddler...no snoring from anyone (not even my husband!), it was the most quiet, and restful night I've had in long time. You can "feel" the cleaness in the air...I didn't know what others were talking about but oh yeah, the air felt a heck of alot fresher! If it did this instantly, I can just imagine how well it's going to do over the next year.

About the unit - This unit is soooo quiet...I got up at 12am just to make sure it was working. With my air conditioner going, I couldn't hear it at all..even when my central air turned off, I couldn't hear it. It is sooo sleek until it puts everything else in my traditional bedroom to shame! I love the modern look, I can't wait to purchase one for the living and kitchen. Since they are expensive this isn't something that I can just run out an buy...:-)

I feel like this was the best purchase, I also feel like I've accomplished something...a cleaner home, healthier kids, and oh, I didn't wake up stuffy nosed that I have done for the past week...for me, this has turned my world "right side up!"

Don't hesitate...I think I've done enough hesitating for everyone. In the end, just let the products rating guide your decision and you can't go wrong! Good luck!

Customer Review: FINALLY! I can breathe!
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok... ok... ok... I know there are lots of you (like me) that are skeptical about a ~$300 product that claims to make the air in your environment smell and feel cleaner but is it actually effective? I purchased the Rabbit Air 421A in Silver back in November 2009 direct from the manufacturer. The purchase was made solely off of the Amazon reviews I read and other external websites that seemed to have nothing but glowing impressions of this fancy little box. I have spent the last several years fighting off a continued sinus infection that had gotten so bad that when I would wake up in the morning I would find myself coughing up LITERALLY coughing up mucus and phlegm. When I came home from work in the dusk I could see millions of little particles floating around in the beams of light coming in from the windows. I knew it was time to find a solution.

Introducing - the Rabbit Air BioGS 421A - God's gift to the dirty air world. I felt like a kid at Christmas I was so giddy when the box arrived. Did I mention this box was giant? I really underestimated the size of this thing, but it's okay because the bigger the unit the more air it is able to clean. So I unpackaged the big boy and within 5 minutes I had the thing running. Installation was literally removing all of the bags from everything and then plugging in the charcoal filter, HEPA filter, and pre-filter, then replacing the plastic front cover and plugging it in. The unit is big but light enough to carry with one hand.

Night 1 - I swore it was the best sleep I had ever gotten and I woke up feeling clear and able to breathe, although my significant other swears that it's all subliminal. By the end of the first week I was no longer hacking up pieces of my own lung. The automatic sensor(s) are so smart that I can throw a chicken on the stovetop in the kitchen and ~60 seconds later the unit kicks into high gear. Sometimes when the cat walks by the Rabbit Air whirs into full speed and scares the heck out of him (not necessarily a pro for some people but for me it is!). I catch myself doing certain things in the apartment and then mindlessly staring at the front indicator lights on my Rabbit Air to see how it feels about my actions.

I was hesitant to post a positive review until I really knew if the unit worked. After 3 months of non-stop use (daytime - auto mode, nighttime - fan speed 3 mode) the unit finally beeped at me this morning to "clean filters." So I popped the front of the unit off (no screws, it just pops off!) and I didn't know whether or not to be excited or disgusted. The pre-filter was COVERED in dust, hair, big particles - it took me a solid 2 minutes to pull off of the dust off with the vacuum. Behind the pre-filter the HEPA filter also needed a quick pass and the charcoal filter was fine as is. After looking at all of the dust and dirt and pet hair (think if you opened your lint trap on your dryer) I knew the purchase was more than worth it to keep all that crap out of my air.

My only complaint? That I didn't buy two to keep myself from lugging it around the apartment from room-to-room.

Customer Review: Excellent Customer Service, great product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Rabbit Air BioGS 421A with the white face plate directly from Rabbit's website, and received it two days later. Unfortunately the unit vibrate at Maximum fan speed, called the customer service and the gentleman said it is not normal and they will overnight a replacement unit for me, and arrange UPS to come pick up the defective unit.

Thanks to Rabbit Air excellent customer service and super fast delivery the replacement unit arrived quickly, and it does not vibrate at Maximum fan speed! In the mean time, I also bought a Sharp FP-P60CX Plasmacluster from newegg so I'll do a brief comparison between them.

SHARP FP-P60CX Plasmacluster:
-pushes more air but slightly louder (maximum 233cfm @52dBA)
-only has one odor sensor
-carbon filter bag contain twice as much carbon, but replacement filter also cost more
-big remote, can't store it on the unit but you can access to all function from the unit without it
-HEPA filter is slightly bigger and thicker, suppose to last 5 year but replacement filter cost twice as much
-More advanced and effective Ionizer, it scrubs the air! (you can read about Plusmacuster technology on Sharp's website)
-Display light can be turn off
-Outside housing of the unit feel more rigid and slightly better construction, no vibration of any kind.
-1,4,8 hour timer
CADR rating: Dust 209 / Smoke 213 / Pollen 205

Rabbit Air 421A:
-Less powerful fan but quieter (maximum 159cfm @45dBA)
-both odor and dust sensors
-carbon filter catridge contain less carbon, cheaper to replace and easier to clean
-tiny remote, can be store at the back of the unit and you NEED the remote to access to most function
-HEPA filter is slightly smaller and thinner, only last 1.5yr, but cheaper to replace
-Display light cannot be dim or turn off
-1,2,4 hour Timer
CADR rating: Dust 145 / Smoke 144 / Pollen 163
-Excellent customer service

Honestly, it's very hard for me to pick between the two, so I decided to keep them both. I paid about the same for both units, and at the end of 5 year mark I believe the total cost of operation will be about the same too. If I have a tight budget and can only afford to buy one unit, I would probably get the Sharp FP-P60CX Plasmacluster because it pushes more air(higher CADR) which mean it can cover a bigger room, don't have to replace the filters for 5 years, and the timer is more useful(8hr instead of 4hr). Fortunately I can afford to keep both, so I'm using the more powerful unit (SHARP) in the living room, and put the quieter unit (Rabbit Air) in the bedroom. I leave them on full time (Auto mode)24/7, the sensors from both units are effective enough to adjust itself as necessary, and trust me....these sensors work as advertised, they are not a gimmick, my daughter farted around the air purifiers and both units kicked into high gear instantly, even before we can smell it!!

Customer Review: There are better options
Summary: 2 Stars

Why should you read this review? 'Cause I actually own the unit, and if you click 'Read all my reviews', you will see that this isn't the only product I have reviewed. So you know that I'm no jerk trying to promote another product, or promote this one.

I've had this 421-a for almost a year, and I have to say I'm disappointed. My bro and I would clean the unit about once every few weeks, but as of recently, we are quite busy. When I say quite busy, I mean we don't care and we play video games all day. Any who, we've been pretty consistent with cleaning the unit up until a few weeks ago, and it's air cleaning abilities are questionable.

With in the past year, it broke once, and the company had honored the warranty and repaired the unit and had it back to me in a timely manner [2-3 weeks]. It didn't work any better. It broke because of a power surge, and my crappy surge protector failed at its job, but nothing else connected to the surge protector was damaged. Go figure.

I've noticed I had to dust a LITTLE less, but I still need to dust. Although I'm an asthmatic, the 2-3 weeks I didn't have it, I didn't feel like it was gone. My breathing was the same, not worse, not better. Also, during the summer, when the windows are open, the operation of the purifier is pretty much useless... The air that comes in, whether dirty or clean, is just replacing the air that is being purified, or ionized.

The Purifier takes a mere 44 watts on high, whether the ionizer is on or off[Measured with a kill-a-watt]. Makes you wonder if there is an ionizer at all?

The past four weeks, we haven't been paying attention to it. I opened it, and lo' and behold, it is filthy as hell. I cleaned it out, and only a handful of dust was collected in the vacuum. ONLY A HANDFUL. My vacuum collects more dust if I vacuum my room weekly, and their isn't much carpet to vacuum either.

Overall, I would say it works, but it isn't worth the price. Buy a cheaper unit from a Japanese company which probably works just as effectively at a lower maintenance cost [darn those replacement filters], OR get a good ionizer and set it high like on a closet, and let all the filth settle to the floor, and vacuum it up weekly. Both of those should work as good, or maybe even better than this thing. I don't know any good units to compare too, I haven't tried anything else, but don't let the "cleaner air" tag get to you... It's only as clean as the air in the rest of your house if the windows are closed, or as clean as outside if the windows are open.

Also, a good point to make is that I live in NY, and although the air quality isn't the worst, it's still pretty bad. Clean the charcoal filter with a odorless detergent or soap... Anything odorless will do the job. If you decide to use something that smells like soap, you might as well throw it away. The charcoal will absorb the soap smell, and it will smell like crap forever after.

Any questions?

Customer Review: Rabbit Air BioGP (2 Thumbs Up)
Summary: 5 Stars

I just received my air purifier yesterday and had a chance to use it near my bed for one night of sleeping so far. I have mild asthma and I am heavily effected by Ozone (it makes me react badly to it) so part of the reason I bought this brand was it touted "no ozone" It does have an ionizer on it and those produce ozone. However, you can have it turned off at all times if you want. Even with it on my reactions to it are mild, I spoke to a rep at Rabbit Air who have 24/7 phone support and they told me it uses a low power ionizer so its not a smelly and intense Ozone generation. So for those with Asthma and Ozone sensativity you can turn off the ionizer! Also for those who are wondering the size it stands about 20 inches off the floor.

Pros:
-The charcoal/pre filters are washable in sink or dishwasher
-The HEPA filter is coated with antiviral/antibacterial agent to last longer
-1.5 year filter life with continuous use.
-5 year Warranty
-Very clear high tech looking front display
-Body painted with anti electro-static coating to prevent dust build up
-HEPA filter has a gasket on bottom edge perimeter to prevent air leakage
-The Odor and Particle sensors on front actually function accurately. I would have thought it was a cheap gimmick but they actually work! Its a nice extra feature you don't see elsewhere. (when you buy one spray some air freshener or puff powder somewhere in middle of room and watch the odor/particle lights crank up shortly afterward)

Cons: (small gripes, but not enough for me to effect 5 star rating, but if this was a 1 out of 10 scoring system. I'd give it a 9 or 9.5)
-I dont have a problem with this but some people say front panel is to bright to have in bedroom. If you like perfect blank room then find a way to cover the display. No way to shut off front display other then power off.
-The unit requires a remote control to get to all its higher functions. All you can do on the unit itself is turn power on/off. The remote uses over sized watch battery so it wont be something you have laying around the house as a spare backup.
-The Ionizer turns itself on every time you select a new function on the remote (speeds and settings) So, you need to turn it back off everytime you change its settings (not a big deal)
-Some people were surprised by its size. But after getting it its about mid thigh high. You can press it up against a wall if you want.. and since its a somewhat thin profile it takes up less floor space then thise giant square or round designs other air purifiers have.

I am not sure if its worth the price yet. However, so far so good! When you look at the price of the competition and the quality and featurs you get on this. Its a very nice comparable model to put on your shopping radar if you are in the market.
