I hate to write negative review, especially mine contradicts all the other ones. But I feel that I am entitled to tell my personal experience. So here I go:
I bought this peeler about 3-4 months ago, after researching quite thoroughly and looking into all the reviews, which are all positive. I received the item promptly, and it looks new and as described. I noticed the "Made in Sweden" stamp on the body. That in fact was one of my reasons to buy it in the first place, thinking that European manufacturer must have good craftsmanship. Anyway, I put it in the kitchen drawer and haven't any chance to use it until a couple of days ago. I bought a 10 pound bag of russet potatoes, so I thought to myself, "Finally I can enjoy this brand new peeler!"
How disappointing was I! On my first strike down the potato skin, I couldn't believe it. It didn't even make a dent on it. So I tried again, and it barely started to cut down the side. The blade is unacceptably dull. Almost every stroke needs to be repeated, and striking down harder in order to peel. This takes extra long time, and also very frustrating.
Note that I had used similar kind of potato peelers before. The kind that sells even in Walmart, look almost exactly the same except for the "Made in China" stamp. My experience with those was that they were at least sharper than this one. The only problem is that they were not stainless steel which tend to rust after a period of use.
But this brand new one, made in Sweden and all, with stainless steel, costing a lot more than my old Walmart one, is just way too dull. This basically rendered it not usable. But since I let it sit in my drawer for several months, it is too now late to return. Again, I had high hope, but I am very disappointed!
