Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pyrex Smart Essentials 8-Piece Mixing Bowl SetCustomer Review: I won't be buying any more CorningWare, Corelle or Pyrex items Summary: 1 Stars
I bought my Pyrex bowls back when they used to sell the multicolor sets. They were great--I've used them for mixing, storing, microwaving and baking and they've held up well.
I wouldn't buy these new ones though. The Pyrex items that I bought for my daughter, I'm asking her to toss those and I'm looking for something safer to replace them.
I'll buy her something different but it won't be Pyrex. No more Corelle, no more CorningWare and no more Anchoring Hocking, either, for that matter.
I am not usually militant about a product--I normally feel of course companies will try to make the most money they can and consumers should try to do their homework and make good choices.
But I am highly upset that the company has not addressed a very widespread problem with their products exploding when heated. Some people have experienced injuries, yet somehow, the company has gotten away with not recalling any products. They have simply added to their warning label in an attempt to cover themselves.
For this reason, I won't be buying any more from a company that is willing to take the customers' money but doesn't seem to care at all that they are selling a dangerous product.

Customer Review: Perfect. Work as described. Excellent quality. Summary: 5 Stars
Pyrex doesn't need a review--it's great stuff. Non-pourous so it doesn't soak up tastes and smells that can never be washed out. Tough and beautiful, Pyrex does it all.
So the bowls are a no brainer, but why buy these instead of others. The tops of course are the difference. I've found that most Pyrex bowls with tops I had looked at didn't fit on their bowls very well or were made out of materials which didn't seem like they would outlast me--as they should. These tops are durable, make a good seal that wont pop off or leak. And they're labeled with the various volumes of the bowls.
The size range of the set is also very good--from one the size of a cereal bowl to one large enough for a pot-luck salad without being so big that it wouldn't fit in a kitchen cabinet--and they all fit inside each other without the smaller ones rising above the rims of the larger ones.
You can put all the bowls inside each other then close them all up with the largest top--with enough room to put paper towels between each bowl and the next for safety.
Customer Review: Love Them But They Have Limitations Summary: 4 Stars
I just love this set. I've had it now for several months and use it constantly. I really like the different colored lids which fit snugly and comfortably without being a pain to get off. They are nice vivid colors that have held up well even in the dishwasher. Also the sizes of the bowls are perfect for storing. They have been used a lot and still look like new. I ordered a second set so that I have plenty on hand because these are my new favorite storage bowls. I deducted a star because I wouldn't really classify these are great mixing bowls since they aren't deep enough and narrow enough for certain mixing bowl needs. I tried making mashed potatoes in the largest one with a hand mixer and it was a mess. So I use them when I don't need any electronic mixing and for storage containers and serving bowls. But overall, the quality is very good as it is with all the Pyrex products I've had over the years. Some of them I've had for over 20 years and they still look good! I would say a very good product but not really suitable for certain mixing bowl needs.
Customer Review: Great items, used for years, lids are bonus and unnecessary !! Summary: 5 Stars
On march 27, 2010, I bought these for seventeen dollars and ninety-nine cents with free delivery. That seemed like a good deal.
Have used these for years. No problems. Bought these because you get 4 bowls for good price - cheaper than ordering separately or in other combinations.
For those who obsess on the lids, keep in mind that you do not need the plastic lids. If you want to cover a bowl, choose the bowl that is one size smaller , flip it over and put it on top of the larger bow. The bowl is both covered and can contain more than with the plastic lid!
That works great in the microwave, if you want your food covered in the microwave. Best way to do a baked potato.
For example, to cover the 4 quart bowl, take the 2.5 quart bowl, flip it over and put it on top the 4 quart bowl.
Hope it helps !
Customer Review: Great, durable bowls for mixing, storage - poor lid fit over time Summary: 4 Stars
I LOVE these bowls and use them for mixing, food storage, food serving/presentation, fruit bowls - everything. You can mix a beautiful salad, serve it, and then store the leftovers all in the same bowl. My only complaint is that the lids become very loose and ill-fitting over time; I don't have a dishwasher and I never had a reason to microwave the lids so they could not have warped in those ways. Still, they are so great that I wish I had a second set! Also, because the lids are different colors, it somehow makes it easier to grab the correct lid the first time. Overall, the durability and versatility of the bowls (microwave, oven, freezer). I did not realize these were made in the US - bonus!
