This measuring cup looks huge when you first get it! Then you use it for the purpose you bought it for and you fall in love with it.
I bought this for my husband. He brews beer and his recipe calls for many cups of malt extract syrup, which is like corn syrup. Needless to say it's thick and doesn't pour easy. The one-cup measuring glass we were using, just wasn't cutting it. This bad boy was great. After pouring the syrup in, he was able to put the measuring glass in hot water to soften up the syrup.
I'd definately buy this product again!

Pyrex is always the best! This enormous measuring cup is great for melting in the microwave and for a homemade double boiler in any pot. The lid is a hard plastic top with flexible sides that seal up tight so you can use it to store things in the fridge and to carry things places. Also the cover is safe for both freezer and microwave use (but not the oven) and is dishwasher safe in the top rack. The cover has three pouring choices, a regular pour spout, a slotted spout, and a spout with seven little holes. Wow this is a BIG measuring cup, you can mix a whole cake in it! Super convenient as you can whip up a batch of something, pour out what you want right then, and throw it in the fridge to cook a little more the next day. Make sure you also have a smaller measuring cup around for jobs that don't require trucking this thing out. I also like that the stuff from Pyrex doesn't have the "seams" in glass that some of the cheaper, similar brands do from the way they were manufactured. I love this Pyrex Prepware 8-Cup Measuring Cup with Lid. I use mine nearly every weekend for mixing up waffles or pancakes for a hot morning breakfast. It's so convenient -- no scooping out the batter for pouring...which can cause messy drips. I usually double my recipes and I have room to spare. Just whip the batter up in the sturdy "cup" with an electric mixer, then pour. This is my first and only Pyrex measuring cup with a lid, but I plan to get some more in the other sizes for smaller recipes.Customer Review: The Measuring Cup Becomes The Mixing Bowl

I see plenty has already been said, and probably much that you already know. This is Pyrex, and regardless of some memories, it's thick, solid and real.
I just want to add that this measuring cup is, in actuality, a handy-dandy mixing bowl in disguise. One in which you can measure the milk without having to wash another dish.
This can be handy.
Oh, the cap? I guess it can come into play; I haven't used it. Just gravy. Hey, wanna mix up some gravy tonight?
