Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pyrex Prepware 8-Cup Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Lid and MeasurementsCustomer Review: Every bit a Pyrex product as it could be! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently ordered & received my Pyrex Prepware 8-cup glass measuring cup with red lid to use for making large batches of yogurt (9 cups) in my Waring Pro yogurt maker (also purchased at Amazon.com) and I could not be more pleased. When I make yogurt I need to heat the milk to 185 degrees in the microwave and I don't like to heat it in my larger plastic measuring cups (just a concern about heating foods in plastic-better safe than sorry is my outlook, and I don't heat the milk with the lid on).
Anyway, prior to getting this Pyrex 8-cup I would heat the milk in a ceramic mixing bowl but, after the milk cooled to 110 degrees, I would need to move it to a plastic container with a spout to pour into the individual cups...a bit inconvenient. Now I can do everything in one glass dish, from heating the milk, cooling it, adding the dry milk & yogurt starter, to pouring the mix into the individual yogurt cups....very cool!
As for another reviewer's problem with their Pyrex that they feel is "junk"; I'm not sure what happened there. Perhaps they received the wrong product or something? In any case, if you have any concerns, I would check out the Pyrex web site ([]) where they address "rumors" of poor quality, including the fact that Pyrex products are still made in the U.S. as it has been for over 60 years, and by union labor. Awesome!! I'm soooo glad to hear that another product is still made in the Good 'Ol U.S. of A!
Happy Holidays!
Customer Review: The Better Batter Bowl Summary: 5 Stars
As mentioned before, this cup is huge! I was using my 4 cup Pyrex cup for mixing pancake batter and thought how nice it would be if they made a bigger one. I came here to search for a batter bowl that I saw once and the Pyrex 8 cup measuring cup was included in the search results.
I like to make a big batch of waffles or pancakes to freeze and this cup works great because I can mix a lot of batter at once and pour it into the waffle maker or on the griddle. The pouring spout makes this easier and a lot less messy than dipping the batter out. I used it today to mix cornbread batter and had plenty of room in the cup to stir without worrying about batter splashing out of it. The cup also works well for whipping egg whites, yes there really is that much room! There's also enough room in the cup to make a sponge for sourdough breads.
The reversed measurements outside the cup allow you to look inside rather than bending to get at eye level, but I've been doing it the old way for so long, I rarely think to go by the inside markings. Maybe one day.
This would work well for someone with limited space as it apparently (based on other reviews) can be used for a number of things.
Though I may not use it much, the lid has a snug and tight fit on the cup.
The Pyrex 8 cup measuring cup is a sturdy multi-purpose kitchen tool that gets my recommendation!
Customer Review: Best big glass measuring cup ever! Summary: 5 Stars
I love my Pyrex measuring cup. Actually, at 8 cups, it's more the size of a bowl. And I use it for mixing too, because of the handle and pour spout. I have had mine for 9 months now and the red lettering is still in place, despite many trips through my washing machine. I microwave stuff in it too, it is versatile like that.
I love the heft of it, because it seems very durable. Of course if I drop it on the floor, I guess it would break - but I am not planning on doing that.
I have an 8 cup plastic measuring cup too, but I find that my Pyrex glass one is the one I take out of the cabinet to use.
I have never used the lid that came with it. I suppose I might if I ever mixed something up in it and transferred it to the refrigerator, like say a dip or something.
I urge you to buy this.
Customer Review: Pyrex knock-off junk Summary: 1 Stars
It turns out that this mixing bowl is not made by corel, and is not the high quality high temperature glass originally used. Corel sold of it's Pyrex brand to another company called World Kitchen. WK uses common bottle glass for all it's Pyrex line, rather than the 'lab glass' that made pyrex worth buying.
I was forced to purchase a replacement for the 16 year loyal pyrex measuring that finaly broke. It arrived today, complete with defective bubbles and cracks through both the handle and bowl. Return shipping will cost more than the item did to purchase, so I am out of luck.
If you are looking for the quality pyrex that has been used for generations, you are out of luck. It has not been made for a while now.
Customer Review: Lid does not seal-not airtight Summary: 2 Stars
I use this cup in 2 cup size for making salad dressing. I make enough for a couple of nights and like to put the rest in the refrig. I had been covering my cup with saran, so I jumped at this cup with lid. Problem is, it does not seal. There is a big gap between the spout and the lid. So, the dressing dries out or the dressing (if garlic/onion/shallot) smell permeates through the refrig. It does not seal so liquids will leak out of the spout. It would be good for pouring off liquids from, say, micro'd veggies.
The other irritating thing is, I have 2 other PYREX 2-cup measuring cups (I bought this 3rd cup bec of the lid), and the lid doesn't fit them.
