Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pyrex Bakeware 1-1/2-Quart Loaf Dish, ClearCustomer Review: satisfied with results Summary: 4 Stars
While I have bought various sizes of Pyrex baking pans and storage containers, overall I had satisfying experiences with them. However, recently, I bought more of a variety of Pyrex items for relatives of mine as gifts, and the feedback I got back from them recently, is that Pyrex is becoming a hazard to use! I received a forwarded email from their friend who had an explosion in her stove of a Pyrex baking dish! It was baking at a normal temperature, but had shattered into shards and slivers of glass all over her oven, and of course, the baked food had to be thrown out and the oven cleaned out carefully after it had cooled off. Recently, when I brought up this matter to other people, they also shared their harrowing experiences with me about exploding Pyrex baking pans in their ovens, as well as while cooling off on the side of the stove top. After corresponding with the first forwarded person's email, I was informed that the Pyrex company and Corningware, and their formulas to create their glass various products, was sold to a company (PMC) in China last year. I looked into the inside bottom of the Pyrex items that I own, and noticed that thank G-d, mine were all made in the USA. This makes me feel a lot better. I learned that the Chinese company that now produces Pyrex and Corningware products in China, has substituted the formula contents for another one in their manufacturing of new Pyrex products, and perhaps that is what caused them to explode. It is very scarey to think that people and their food preparations are no longer safe in their own kitchen, because of the Pyrex problem!
Description of Pyrex Bakeware 1-1/2-Quart Loaf Dish, ClearA kitchen staple for more than 80 years, Pyrex bakeware is as relevant today as it was in 1915. Made of a durable, high temperature material, Pyrex bakeware is classically beautiful and versatile enough to use in the refrigerator, freezer, oven, microwave, dishwasher and on the table in style. Pyrex was the first to create a line of glass bakeware so cooks could actually see how their food was cooking. At the time, the idea was revolutionary; now--like all great innovations--we take it for granted. In fact, these days a loaf dish from Pyrex (a company that's been making quality glass products for the better part of a century) costs about as much as a sandwich at your local deli. Not a bad deal, considering this dish works equally well in the oven, microwave, freezer, and dishwasher. Regardless of the type of loaf you're craving--be it cranberry, banana, pumpkin, or carrot--Pyrex's loaf dish gets the job done and transitions beautifully to your table when you're ready to serve. --Meg Heffernan
