I mistook the loaf pan for a smaller lasagna pan. I already own a large and small Pyrex lasagna pan. The reason for my purchase of this set was the small lasagna pan exploded.
I was roasting some peanuts, not under the broiler at 375 degrees. Took my small lasagna pan out and placed it on the counter top when this sharp CRACK noise came about and my small lasagna pan exploded into 2 large pieces and several small shards.
That scared me. I have no idea why that happened.
So, with that experience, why buy more Pyrex? Well, the small Pyrex lasagna pan has been under pretty heavy use for over a decade. I use it for holding grilled meats, cooking smaller portions of lasagna, as a small cake dish, to hold leftovers and it has always worked well.
This set is inexpensive and my mistake was thinking the loaf pan was a replacement for my exploded small pan. I already have a 1 cup Pyrex measuring cup, now I have two large lasagna pans, and the square pan has not become my small go to Pyrex pan. Don't know if I'll ever use the round Pyrex item.
