Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pyrex 6022369 Storage 14-Piece Round Set, Clear with Blue LidsCustomer Review: Good bowls, but rims chip & break easily Summary: 4 Stars
PROS: Overall I am happy with these bowls. The round plastic lids seal very well. They are snug, but not exactly water tight. Being made of tempered glass, the bowls can be used in the microwave, oven, fridge and freezer. They are heavier than thin plastic containers for taking food to work, but you avoid most of the plastic leeching that happens with those containers. The lids can leech plastic if left on loose during reheating due to the condensation that collects on them. Except for the rim (see "CONS" below), these are fairly durable bowls.
CONS: The major down side to these are the glass rims. They are the weak spot and can easily chip or break. STACKING these bowls with out their lids on is NOT advised. This is especially true for the smaller "2-cup" size bowls. Due to the crystalline nature of glass and very little tapered angle (the sides are almost vertical), pulling 2 bowls apart can shear off pieces of glass from the rim of the bottom bowl. You may not be aware of this when it happens and there is a danger that small shards of glass may be left inside a bowl. Those of you with children should be aware if this point.
When using a dishwasher, you must be careful to NOT allow the rim of one bowl to come in contact with another dish. Otherwise the water pressure may rock the bowl back and forth resulting in impact damage and chips to the rim. I suggest trying to move or wiggle the bowls by hand to check the range of motion while resting on your dishwasher's rack. With a little experimentation, you can find the right spots to load these bowls safely. This is mostly a problem when the bowls are at an angle. The best way to load them seems to be securely on their side. Just be sure they cannot move around and are not tipped back (which will trap water and soap).
Pyrex appears to change their manufacturing frequently, which one assumes is to improve the product. The color of their glassware has a darker blue-green tint than they did a few years back. The rim (lip) of their dishes have a more rounded edge than before. However, the issues I describe above are still present. It should be noted that the rim weakness usually only results in small chips and I have not yet had a "fault line" or deep crack start in one with normal use. With over 2 dozen of the 2-cup size bowls I have only had one casualty when it was dropped from about waist height onto a very hard floor.
Customer Review: Pyrex = Safer Summary: 5 Stars
How long have we been using those plasticware or the brand that sounds like the things would be made of rubber? How many times have we seen those orange, red, yellow stains and the lingering smells that are absorbed in the plastic containers? How many times have you microwaved your food and the plastic started to melt or burn at the bottom when heating oily food? Switch to glass and rest easy. -- Ok i know it sounds like a sales pitch, but in reality these things probably sell themselves. So here is my review:
Pros:
1.) Affordable. For about ten or fifteen bucks for a 5 containers is great compared to what people paid for their plastic ones.
2.) No more melted/burned containers from oily foods like cheese, fried foods, meat, sauces, etc.
3.) No more absorbed smells from last use foods or dish soap fragrance. This is a major plus.
4.) No more broken/cracked lids.
5.) Less spillage/Less leakage.
6.) See clearly what's growing in there.
7.) Not just for storage but great for heating foods for everyday use
8.) Keeps food a bit fresher. I had some plasticware that did not have a good seal. Food always dried unexpectedly with those. This has a nice tight seal.
9.) Nice variety. Great for containing leftovers and carrying lunch.
10.) No absorbed colors. It stays clear.
Negatives:
1.) Lids are hard to snap on for the first few uses. They seal tightly.
2.) Glass break when dropped on the floor. I have not dropped any yet.
3.) Lids can melt. If you microwave the containers sealed with the lid, your lids will become useless. They will loose their shape and hold.
4.) Heavier than plastic.
5.) Lids are a bit thin and loose shape or weaken when repeatedly frozen or microwaved. Allow a few minutes for lids to defrost before opening. Avoid microwaving lids for too long.
6.) No grip on the bottom. Hard to handle when hot. Slippery on most surfaces.
Overall:
Great buy. I prefer these over plasticware. The lids would be nicer if thicker. Would be nice if the bottom were non-slip. I usually mistreat plasticware when I use them since they won't break. I try not to bang these around. These things will not release any harmful stuff like the plastic stuff, but the lids are questionable. A big step up from plastic.

Customer Review: Simple Elegance Brought to Everyday Use Summary: 4 Stars
Have you ever bought a set of pots and pans? Do you own a set of matching dishes and silverware? Or is your cupboard filled with mismatched tumblers, odd plates from sets that were split when pieces were broken, and pots left over from college and relatives when you moved into your first place? Then you know how it feels to rummage around in the cupboard looking for the right lid for a plastic container. You know what a pain it is to try to cover a plastic bowl with cling wrap, only to end up using aluminum foil. Then later, transferring said leftovers into a microwave-safe bowl or plate for heating in the microwave. That said, I actually enjoy using these pyrex bowls. Even my 8-year-old daughter commented on how "pretty" they are. I feel more "grown-up" when I use these during food prep and putting away leftovers. I bought these because I wanted an alternative to plastic containers which can contain harmful chemicals, sometimes become brittle and crack when frozen, and shouldn't be used in the microwave. They even look simply elegant when used on the table as serveware--they match everything! I didn't anticipate that they would make everyday cooking feel luxurious. I think they're fantastic so far, and I would give these 5 stars, but I have a feeling that the plastic lids may not last the life of the bowls. I enjoy them so much, I even eat out of them.
Here are a few main points I wanted to list to help you decide if these are the bowls for you:
-Nesting bowls (I was able to put two of the smaller ones into the largest one.)
-Clear pyrex makes it easy to see what's inside
-Lids are a little tricky to put on, but seal tightly
-Sizes are just right for storing leftovers, which can then be reheated in the container they were stored in
-Food can also be frozen, thawed, and microwaved in the same container SAFELY
-Thick enough that they don't feel like they'll shatter if they slip out of your hands in the sink
-Not so thick and heavy that they feel cumbersome
-Don't get super hot in the microwave
-Easy to clean because of seamless construction
My only criticism is that they should've made a larger set with more pieces available through the Friday sale! Individual pieces sold at my local store are much more expensive! Aloha from Hawaii!
Customer Review: Great product Summary: 5 Stars
I have been SO concerned about the dangers of plastic-leaching and assumed that there wasn't much to choose from in the way of glass storage containers and that it would be too expensive to buy, but I was wrong on both counts! I love the Pyrex glass storage ware. It is very thick, in my opinion, and the lids are very easy to get on if you start at one end and "smooth" your way around. My lids have all fit well. Also, the design of these lids makes them easier to clean. All the previous plastic container lids I've owned have had a very narrow opening on the underside edge where the container fits into the lid. These crevices can trap bits of food (usually sauces gone astray in my experience) and can be very difficult to clean. The Pyrex lids have a wide lip that can easily be wiped out. I haven't tried liquids in them yet to know about leakage, but I'm sold on them for carrying lunches, storing all kinds of cooked foods, raw vegetables, etc. in the refrigerator, and have put a bunch of them in the freezer also with lunches in them. They clean up in a SNAP (the round ones are easier to clean than the square one because of having no corners), and they seem very sturdy and well-made. The red lids are a little garish and overly bright in my opinion and are not truly red, so I much prefer the blue ones, but in the end it doesn't matter that much since they're just for food storage! I purchased 3 different sets of the Pyrex glass storage and love them all. A lot of them nest together to save space also, which helps in storing all of these! I've already gotten rid of the majority of my plastic ware, and I just got a new Pyrex set yesterday, so I'll be getting rid of more of the plastic now! The 4-cup size is great for ALL KINDS of things and is my very favorite lunch size, and the 2-cup containers are my next-most-used size after the 4-cup size. The 2-cup sizes are SO handy for so many things that I couldn't do without them. Some people sort of complain about the smaller sizes that are included in most of the sets, but I find the smaller sizes so useful for so many things that I couldn't do without them. Needless to say by this point, I'm thrilled that these are now available to buy!
Customer Review: Wonderful product but keep away from stove top. Summary: 4 Stars
First, let me say I purchased this set in October 2007. I was thrilled with the thickness of the glass and the durability of the lids. I use them daily for cooking and storage. I have had no issues whatsoever with quality until this evening when one of the glass dishes shattered as it was sitting on our glass top stove. Or rather, it EXPLODED because glass flew all across the range, counters, on the floor - HUGE MESS! I was quite shocked because I had used all the glass bowls in the microwave, in the oven, fridge, and washed them in the dishwasher on sanitize without even the smallest issue arising. This particular bowl was sitting on the stove, next to the burner that was on and it just shattered. I had pulled it from the cabinet and just added refried beans to microwave. I'm wondering if after a year of use, the quality somehow diminishes - though I really hope that isn't the case because I really like using the bowls. I would advise that you check your glass bowls regularly for any cracks, etc. that might weaken it. It could be there was an issue that I didn't catch. As for normal storage, these bowls are the best! After all the scare about plastics, we switched completely to glass. They are much easier to clean, stack very well, do not have that nasty residue that happens to plastic as it ages and it's Earth friendly because you aren't replacing them as often as you would plastic. They also don't warp like plastic and thankfully, neither do the lids! I came to see if there were any other reviews like mine, and did not read any issues that were similar to the glass exploding like it had with me. I am hoping that it was just a freak accident and will not happen again, but thought I would post in case someone had a similar experience. I am still pleased with the product for storage and will continue to use it as such. Not so sure about using it in the microwave or in the oven again just yet. I researched pricing at the time of purchase last year and am pleased to report that it was then and still is now the cheapest price available.
