I read a lot of complaints about the hot packs, but I've never had any problems- probably because I've never actually heated mine.
I live in Alaska and during the winter bringing anything hot anywhere is a problem. I love this product because I stick all of the hot packs in the pouch at room temperature for extra insulation. I time it so the food is done right before I am ready to leave and take it out of the oven and put it directly into the carrier. I stick the lid on, zip the carrier up and I'm ready to go. I make it to potlucks with steaming hot food and everyone is impressed and asks where I got my carrier.
I love it, no complaints!

Pyrex Portables food transportation system includes an insulated bag and hot and cold packs ideally suited to fit informal and mobile lifestyles. Pyrex Portables allow busy, on-the-go consumers to take their favorite meal wherever they go (hot or cold) sealed in the dish it was cooked in. No fuss, no spills, no bother. There's no substitute for Pyrex, the original glass bakeware. Introduced 90 years ago and made of a durable, high temperature material, Pyrex remains the ideal medium for safe, dependable food preparation.Perfect for potlucks and picnics, this set makes it possible to transport and serve baked ziti or apple crisp. First, cook your dish in the set's 7-by-11-inch glass baker. Then, when it's hot from the oven, cover it with the snap-on plastic lid. The covered baker then goes into the set's blue insulated carry bag, along with utensils and napkins. Two carrying straps on the bag ensure that the baker stays level. Heat the included hot pack in a microwave oven and slip it into a pocket in the bag's top to keep the food hot until serving time. You can also substitute a frozen cold pack for the hot pack so you can transport fruit salad or any chilled food. The baker is made of Pyrex, a special glass that withstands the shock of going from hot to cold, or vice versa, without breaking.
