Customer Review: Onion chop wizard

First of all, I have the Vidalia Onion chop wizard. The diffence is in name only, as far as I can see, these products are identical. I am ordering another to give as a gift, since I like mine so well. No, as far as I can tell, you can not chop a whole onion. I believe that that is the intended purpose, but as you can see in the picture, the blade is too close to the 'vertex' to do that effectively. It wants to slide the onion across the blade, so I can see how it easily breaks if too much force is applied.
BUT~ since I dont have the desire to cut entire onions, I will quarter them and peppers (I've even done thick slices of fruit), this chopper works beautifully. This thing has saved me from hours of mundane chopping and spilt tears over onions. i have used this for salads, and my favorite, fresh salsa. I lay the cilantro over the blade and lay fat slices of tomatoes on top, to push the cilantro through. The bottom has graduated measurements too, which is handy. Another aspect that I like is I can have fresh veggies chopped and store them in the container, because the handle acts like a lid in the fridge, so I will make sure to have extras in the fridge to throw into soups or omelets later.
The one thing I don't like, although it has not been a big deal, the teeth and blades can get tedious to clean, even with the comb that is included. I sometimes have to use a toothbrush or run it in 2 dishwasher cycles when I chop veggies with skins or herbs.
This thing has been so handy in the kitchen. I like it enough to buy some as gifts, and when mine wears out, you can bet I will order me a new one.
