This is a quality piece of equipment. The infrared sensor is great for measuring tire and brake disk temps. and things under the hood where a differential in temperature might signal a problem. Also good for scanning outlets and light switches to search for warm spots which can indicate a problem and/or fire hazard.
Of course the "real" intended use is in the kitchen, and the infrared part is good for checking the skillet/oil temp before tossing in the tofu (or whatever), among other things. The "probe" part also works quickly and accurately.
