I had bought this can opener after reading favorable reviews here on Amazon. Unfortunately, this product did not live up to my expectations. First of all, this can opener needs to be reset after every use which involves lifting the locking lever and pushing it in towards the unit. This should only take 5 seconds (or more depending if you are familiar with doing this). However, my gripe is this is a hassle as I could open a can with a standard opener in like 10 seconds. An automatic can opener should be easy to use and most of all.....convenient; having to reset it every time is not. Secondly, the magnet that is suppose to keep the lid from falling into the can when it cuts the can the whole way is weak and rarely works as it loses contact with the top of the can when the can is turning while being opened. Overall, it takes me more time to open a can with this device than with my standard manual can opener (I've timed it). The cutting operation itself is fairly quick but if you take into account having to reset the unit, cleaning the top of the can before you use this opener(since the lid is going to fall into the can 75% of the time), and getting the lid out of the can it just isn't worth the hassle. I've gone back to using my manual can opener after using this Silex plus about a dozen times. I wanted to really like this unit but it takes more work to use it than not.
