Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Proctor Silex 72500RY 1-1/2-Cup Food ChopperCustomer Review: Great Little Chopper Summary: 5 Stars
This little chopper does all (and more) that I would expected it to do. The acid test for any mini chopper (for me) is whether it can make ham salad. It passed this test with flying colors, chopping the ham into a perfect consistent size (no crumbs and chunks.) It also does all those little chopping jobs that are impractical for the full size food processors. The best part is that it's inexpensive, small, quiet and very easy to clean. Please pay no mind to AVJONES who railed against this great little chopper (what kind of a cook chops spinach in a mini-chopper?) Ending, I'm a pretty darn good cook and I say this is a handy little gadget for most of the small chopping jobs that you'll ever do. Stop agonizing, just buy one.
Update: My beloved little chopper died on Sept. 10, 2010. R.I.P. Sniff, Sniff. Note: Actually, the plastic bowl just cracked and crumbled and became unserviceable. The motor still worked, but I had to pronounce it dead, anyway and bury it in the landfill.
Customer Review: Small But Well-Designed Summary: 4 Stars
There are two negative points about this unit.
1. It is little. I made a few days' worth of minced meat to add to my
toddler's food and had to do it in several batches to finish it.
2. If there is a bit of liquid in the food to be chopped and is filled up to the maximum line, the liquid oozes out. There is no seal whatsoever to keep the liquid in. So, in the middle of chopping, I'm constantly having to wipe the bowl all around.
However, there is one outstanding positive factor that I truly appreciate and outweighs the cons to the item. The blade piece is designed such that if food gets dislodged into it, is easily cleaned with a thin narrow brush I have from Dr. Brown's baby bottles. If one does not own this, it may pose a problem. For me, there's no worry about old food or bacteria contaminating future choppings, which is great because I would never be able to clean out raw meat from this one other model I have.
Customer Review: My best friend in kitchen Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this cute little thing on Christmas from Target since it was on sale there and I saved some bucks. Its just amazing for its price....I wonder why didn't I have it earlier. It does nice job with onions, garlic, ginger and green leaves like spinach, cilantro etc. I was happiest when I chopped carrot in this. Now my kid surely eat almost all kinds of veggie in her every meal. Go and buy this if you think your kid is not having enough veggie in her meal or you are spending lots of time dicing/ grating onions and carrots.
Pros:-
Very easy to clean
Perfect size for very small family
Low noise
Cons:-
Container is not made of sturdy material
and the print (on/off) will fade after few days only...which is not a concern.
If getting for lower than $12 .....its a steal deal otherwise also you will not be disappointed.
Customer Review: Waste of money if using for chopping herbs Summary: 1 Stars
After reading all the reviews, I was convinced that the proctor was a great replacement for my old cuisinart herb chopper. What a big disappointment, I sent the proctor back within the week. The proctor does not chop, mince or anything for that matter herbs. It just pushes the herbs to the bottom and sides. I tried different herbs (rosemary, chives, basil, etc.) just in case with the same results. I did not try chopping veggies since I bought it exclusively for herbs - so I don't know how well it chops veggies. But in terms of herbs it's an absolute waste of money. I packed it back and sent it back to amazon - thank god for amazon return Please Please Please do not waste your money on this product if you're planning on using it for herbs
Customer Review: a very convenient food processor Summary: 5 Stars
I got this food processor in order to make pesto sauce. I'm sure it will work will salsa and bruschetta, as well. It's the perfect size, dishwasher safe (blade, cup, and lid), and it chops very cleanly. It's so easy to use and store since it's so small. For making just a little bit of pesto, maybe just a quarter cup, it would really be annoying to have to take out and clean a larger food processor. But this food chopper is the perfect size for such a small amount...or anything up to 1 cup, 1 1/2 cups really. I'm really glad I bought this...and it was just the right price. No need to get a larger, clumsy, and more expensive larger food processor that won't get used as often.
