Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Proctor Silex 72500RY 1-1/2-Cup Food ChopperCustomer Review: Small capacity, easy-to-use and clean, but durability may be an issue Summary: 4 Stars
Each holiday season I chop lots of walnuts for cookie recipes. This is my 'go to' kitchen tool for this job. (I purchased one this season after several years of occasional use of the previous model.) Generally I find it priced at under ten dollars and it lasts me about three years. Admittedly, that might not be a good deal to some who want these things to last forever, but consider a few factors before making your purchase.
1. How big is your kitchen? Mine is very small, so this works well for quickly chopping nuts, mincing garlic, chopping onions, or whipping up a fast guacamole.
2. How much cash do you have to spend? This is very inexpensive, but the blades are good, the design is easy to clean and it works easily with a simple twist of the container.
3. What is the volume of product you need to produce from your chopper? If you need 4 cups of something, this will take you 3 full chopping cycles. Or if you frequently need large quantities of anything chopped, look into this product: Oster FPSTMC3321 3-Cup Mini Chopper with Whisk, Black instead.
4. Is long-term durability an issue for you? At ten bucks I really don't worry too much about it, but with frequent use, this product may not last. I had my last one for about three years and I think that's about the most you can get from one, but undoubtedly, results will vary based upon what you're chopping and the luck of the draw!
This is the updated version of one I had for three years. Previously you had to lock the container in place and then push a button to have it chop. This one does the chopping once the container is locked in place and you twist it just a tad more. It also seems to do the job quicker than the previous one, but maybe that's just new blades or my imagination. Either way, I'm satisfied for the little bit of chopping I need done in my small kitchen. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have frequent or large chopping needs.
