Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Proctor Silex 33015 1-1/2-Quart Round Slow Cooker

Customer Review: great little cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this based on reviews here, and now after a few uses, will add mine. I already love it. We have a huge slow cooker big enough for roasts and such, but for my husband and me it is just too large for everyday use. Not this one - perfect size for smaller quantities of food or side dishes. I love that the ceramic dish is easy to clean and can go right to the table. So far we have made steel cut oatmeal, tapioca pudding, applesauce, and spinach artichoke dip. Much more to come, we've had it for only days. I have two criticisms. 1. The cord is a little short, which doesn't allow it to be in the center or closer to us on the counter. 2. No lights for cook status (just a little orange light would be perfect so we know which setting it is on). I hope it is durable over time but for under $20, I think it's hard to go wrong with this cooker.

Customer Review: Works very well
Summary: 5 Stars

This crockpot is a real pleasure to use. The first couple of times I did my cooking overnight so I could monitor the heat level. No problem there. Each dish cooked slowly and safely on low, increasing my confidence that I could leave the house while it was on. The size is ideal for one person, and it does truly hold 6 cups of water up to the rim (some cookers don't actually hold as many quarts as they say they do -- I have a couple of those). Cover fits well with no sputtering. I actually bought mine in the local store but paid more than I would if I had bought it here. I very much recommend this .I was looking for a small cooker that would look nice on my counter and be ready for me to use often -- this is it. I've already made several delicious dishes in it, including a asian chicken stew, split pea pod soup and spicy squid.

Customer Review: Great cooker, and so cute!

I was looking for a small cooker that would look nice on my counter and be ready for me to use often -- this is it. I've already made several delicious dishes in it, including a chicken stew, split pea soup with frankfurters, oatmeal, and pork chops. Customer Review: Cooks perfectly, but is very small
Summary: 3 Stars

Be warned that this product is quite small, like the size of a small rice cooker.

I live alone, and since I love to cook, this slow cooker is great for making meals when I'm at work. I have no qualms about the products functions itself, just that 1.5 quarts was a lot smaller than I expected.

The typical carton of chicken stock is about one quart, so after adding that, there's hardly any room for meat and vegetables, etc. if you're looking to make a soup. Additionally, this cooker will NOT fit a whole chicken or a medium-sized roast, so be careful when reducing recipes. Lastly, the size makes it a bit difficult to mix raw ingredients like vegetables because there isn't a lot of area inside the pot.

Customer Review: useful but not magnificent
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a great little pot for making small quantities (sauces, gravies, or cooking dried beans). It's easy to clean too.

It lacks some nice control features (such as a timer), which means it's not as hands-off as other slow cookers. I have a Crock Pot Smart Pot which is truly worry-free. I can set the timer and leave it alone all day, and it will automatically switch to "warm" at the end. It's HUGE however, which is why I bought this smaller one.

This is fine as long as you will be around to supervise it... you'd need to manually switch the temperature or turn it off since there's no timer. But otherwise it's a fine machine. No problems, just no bells and whistles either.
