For low-end appliances and electronics, I figure if I pay $10 a year for its service, that's okay. Well, this cheap contraption lasted two months. Amortize THAT.
I didn't like it from the start. It doesn't have a "cancel" button so for light warm-ups i had to force the push lever up, and thatt took some doing. The Black and Decker I bought later at Target has a cancel button. YAY.
Another feature it lacks is the height-booster that is built into many toasters. Reach into a hot slot to retrieve a stumpy baked thingie? I'd rather pull up the lever so the toast peaks over the lip a bit for easy access. (Again, my new B&D has this feature, as did my late, serviceable Braun.)
The inside brace pushed the bread closer to one side, toasting that side more than the other. No bueno, no good.
There seemed to be little difference in the heat setting. 1 or 4, numbers seemed to have no meaning to this cheaply constructed machine.
The crumb "tray" is hinged on the bottom like a trap door, so I had to turn the thing over to clear it. Crumbs escaped. Who needs that? Then trying to get out a stuck piece of torn toast, an act made more awkward because of the lousy construction, I accidentally bumped the unit, which ended it's short, miserable life.
So when the "on" lever refused to stay down, I was more relieved than annoyed. Now I had a great excuse to go buy a $30 toaster that would do the job well. I unplugged the unholy gadget and threw it down twenty feet to the driveway. The crumb door broke off, but that was all. So its last performance was pretty successful, but it had nothing to do with toasting bread.
The only thing I don't like about my new Black and Decker is the logo, front and center on its rather muscular form. It makes me want to grunt like Tim Taylor on Tool Time, but that's not very lady-like.
