Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Proctor Silex 22605 2-Slice ToasterCustomer Review: Buy cheap, buy twice Summary: 1 Stars
This toaster has only one thing to recommend it--the low price. Because it didn't cost much, you won't be as upset when you have to toss it in the garbage. It does not toast even a basic item like an English muffin on the very highest setting. Then, if you want to try to get the muffin more toasted by running it through again, you have to stand there and manually hold the lever down, who knows why? Conversely, if you want to remove something before the cycle finishes, the only way to do it is to unplug the toaster. If you like pop tarts, forget it; the instructions say you can't use this toaster to toast them. My last toaster lasted 36 years and performed satisfactorily right up until the day it failed to heat. This one, I'm discarding after 7 months because it has never satisfactorily toasted anything--not bread, English muffin, roll--for me. Proctor Silex should be ashamed to have its name on this piece of junk.
Customer Review: Great for square slices of bread. Summary: 3 Stars
I hated it at first because we usually get the oblong shaped bread (sourdough usually), bagels, etc. It does a horrible job with these. Bagels don't fit, and oblong slices don't toast evenly if at all. However then I bought a loaf of perfectly square slices of white bread. It is FANTASTIC for these!! So if you usually eat bread that is fairly square in shape I highly recommend it if not.. you might want to continue to look for the right toaster.
I also agree with another reviewer it is VERY annoying that you cannot pop the toast up early. So if heaven forbid your toast starts burning the only thing you can do is unplug it. Sometimes it does not pop up all of the way when it's done either, the slices of bread have to be pretty thin for it to be able to pop up.
Customer Review: Yes, an inexpensive, dependable toaster really exists!!! Summary: 5 Stars
My wife and I use a toaster almost every day. We prefer our kitchen appliances to be simple, functional and easy to maintain. This toaster has been perfect and meets all these requirements. The opening is wide enough for most anything we want to toast and it has pressure plates that hold the items "just right" while toasting breads evenly. This "no frills" toaster does just what one would expect from a basic toaster. Only one variable heat control knob to set, press pop-up slider knob down and the toaster takes care of the rest. Very easy to clean as the hinged bottom plate drops down to allow crumbs to fall and wipe-up if necessary. Takes very little counter space. Oh, did I mention the inexpensive price (around $8.00).
Customer Review: can't pop up toast before it's done Summary: 2 Stars
Beware! Once you've selected the "shade" of how you want the toast, and depress the lever, the only way you can get it to stop earlier is to unplug it!! I hate that aspect. I keep my bread in the freezer, so it takes longer to toast. The first time I used it, I set it for too dark. The toast started burning. I tried pushing up on the lever like you would to most toasters, but nada! I had to unplug it to make it stop. Very poor design. Other than that, I like it. It's not only wide enough for bagels, but long enough for Branola or Orowheat bread, which not all
toasters are. I plug this into a surge surpressor now, so if it needs to come out early, I trip the surpressor, and the toast pops up.
Customer Review: Picture is not correct toaster model Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this because the picture shows the toaster I have had for the last 4 years which worked really well. But the toaster I received is different. The actual 22605 toaster is shown on Amazon under the listing "Proctor Silex Cool-Wall Toaster". It has a rounded top and does not have the three wavy lines design next to the words Proctor Silex. The one pictured here is actually model 22205 and Amazon does not sell it anymore. I returned the 22605: it was flimsier than my old one, the electric heating wires were dented, and it was hard to push the toast up manually. Felt like it would have broken quickly. Gave it three stars cause it did toast the bread and what do you expect for $12.
